WashPo's New Piece on Clinton's BBerry Use

his point is valid, there is a significant number of people out there that if they were just given gifts $48m over the course of the last 40 years, they'd be billionaires at this point.
Bullshit. Most if "given" $48 mill would be flat ass broke within 10 years. Turning millions into billions isn't easy. Certainly is not a "common" occurrence for "most" that acquire millions as uninformed people try and claim.

there's a difference between "most" and "significant"

Lmao. you and greed have no idea what your talking about. In fact I would make the point that less than .01% of those that inherit $$millions ever come close to $billionaire status. It's a greater likelihood of losing $millions after inheriting than growing it. This alone trumps (pardon the pun) your assertions.

"you have no idea what you're talking about, but hey let me throw out this totally random, completely made up statistic to try to back up my point."

of the forbes 400, 28.25% of them inherited wealth over $50m, but yet 35% of them came from poor to middle class with no inheritances. so, yeah, i stick by there would be a significant number of people if you gave them $50m they'd turn it into billions.

if you gave 5,000,000 people (which is a minute fraction of our population) each $50m to start, using your random 0.01% number, that'd generate 500 billionaires, which is right around as many as we have in the united states right now.

I'd just hoard it all up, take it to the mountains and sit on it. Probably die in a year or less. I don't trust anyone or anything enough to invest much. Without the need to earn money anymore, there wouldn't be much purpose in all this.

I'd wander the forest and wait for the end. They asked Bear Bryant what he would do if he wasn't coaching anymore. Said he'd croak in a week. He was off by a month.

Then why aren't there any lottery winners who have gone on to become billionaires?

Better yet, how many millionaire CEOs, professional athletes, millionaire rock stars or entertainers, millionaire business men/women.....NEVER come close to that status.

i'm just saying, it's easier to cross home plate when you're start on third base and the vast majority of the population is starting in the batter's box.

Fairness would be great, wouldn't it?

I proposed $55,900 for everyone and it wasn't received too well. Evidently, fairness isn't quite as great an idea as it sounds when presented in first grade fairy tales.

You actually keep making my point and you don't realize it. First how many of that Forbes 400 actually inherited significantly more $$$ than 48mil? I am guessing close to 10% of that 400 actually inherited a billion.
2nd. Based on you %s, if you aren't bright enough to realize that 72% of those that inherit more than $50 mil don't become billionaires as, "most", then you just might be brain dead.
3rd. "Randomness" assertions in earning billionaire status is absurd. Again, using your data, considering the fact that 72% of people who actually inherit more than 50 mil don't become billionaires....makes it even more unlikely that randomly picking 5000000 people and handing them millions without having a business, knowledge, or skill in which to scale (like most of the Forbes list does) to billionaire status. It would be virtually zero.

No one was denying this. You were attempting to debate something much more specific than this broad assertion.

if you aren't bright enough to realize everyone on the list is a billionaire, then you might just be brain dead.

Why are these people jealous of the rich?

Hell, if you want to be rich go get rich. Who's stopping you? Put in the work and you can get 'er done. Personally, I'm not interested in putting in that kind of work. That much money does nothing more for me than I've got now. In fact, the change would be so drastic I'd hate it.

I always took more pride in acting poor anyway. Established myself in the generics. The rich can have it. It's not a picnic being or getting rich from what I can see.

Yep....Just like I said originally......"most" people being handed $50m would not become billionaires. Since when, under any circumstance, would .01% be "significant"?
