Per Rivals we had 18 commits the other day, now the total count is 17, does anyone know who jumped?

Sage Lewis flipped to FIU. Devonte Williams is visiting Indiana this weekend and we are in danger of losing him too.

We have more on Old Fairfield if you want to consider a subscription. We'll be having a National Signing Day live chat on Wed for subscribers as well.

Thanks Mike,

I'll look at signing up... you guys do a really good job of covering The Herd!

Ive always been curious how many of these kids that flip are told to maybe look elsewhere? I just find it hard to believe a kid would choose FIU over Marshall unless its to stay closer to home, which may be the case with Lewis In the case of Williams maybe he is getting word that Simmons is committing? Just my thoughts Wonder what everyone else thinks

I think thee is much more that goes on than we ever hear. Doc could be telling a kid that he is going to get buried, Doc and coaches have a good feel for kids that may flip and when we get the spot covered behind the scenes they tell the kid they are pulling and the kid de-commits to save face, etc.

Kids/families must do what they feel is best for themselves...although I can't remember any kid who left us late and ended up having an all-conf type playing career. I have always said there are 50-100 kids who sign with P5 schools a year who give up potential pro careers because they never get to develop and play significantly. You have to play to develop fully and at some big schools all it takes is an injury and you are done because they are going to overrecruit almost every position. Same as some powerhouse HS's. Gallmon for instance only caught 2 passes at Godby last year and then has the monster SR year.

It remains to be seen who will sign and who will not but I'm not going to get worked up over it either way. The guys who sign and are eligible I want to know more about. The others will go somewhere else or sit as a prop and are a long way from playing. It is the nature of the game.

The good thing about Sage was that he was always up front with us. He always told us that he wasn't 100% committed and that he was still considering other offers. I can appreciate that. I always felt that if we were going to lose someone it would be him.

He gets to stay home and play in front of family. Can't blame him for wanting to do that. Just hate that we'll have to face him in the East now though.

Looks like 2-star OLB Doyle Grimes just decommitted from the Herd.
Grimes decommitted on Thurs the 26th. He told us he just wanted to make his decision on NSD. Its between Marshall and Syracuse.

In the case of Lewis, he is a very good player that just decided to stay home. He was close to an offer from Miami (FL) a couple of weeks ago, and was 1st team all-state and DPOY in Dade County this year. He is a sideline-to-sideline tackling machine that should play early and often for FIU.
