Saturday morning.

One of these days Chris and Coach are going to let me unleash on this board. Out patience is running out.

rifle is just a crybaby, leggings-wearing, hypocritical puss, because he doesn't get all of the attention he thinks he deserves. He's anti-Fox News because his heros are challenged.

extralyingdumbass? Who knows? I don't know why he even wants to be here. Does anyone? He doesn’t debate, just posts the same things over and over and what he does post has no substance.

He's hating life for some reason. So full of hate and sin.

2024 W-L record predictions for the Herd.

Anyone's prediction change after yesterday?

Why should it? Like 99% of the teams, this week or next, we paid a lower level team, a substantial amount of money to show up for a ease into the season game. Stony Brook is a I-AA team from a part of the country where college football is the least a part of the local culture than any other. We were supposed to win. The fact that we did so easily this year, as contrasted to the struggle last year is probably a function of SUNY-Stony Brook being one of the worst I-AA teams in the country (0-10, 2-9, 5-6 in the last three years), while SUNY-Albany is a solid team that made the I-AA playoffs. But we should not be having discussions about how good or bad a particular I-AA is, we are supposed to grab any by the throat and dominate.

This is you kid who has struggled with math, science, and history coming home and telling you he got a good grade in music appreciation. He is supposed to get an A in that, everyone is supposed to.

The fact that VPI lost to SEC doormat Vandy, may be something, but we beat VPI last year, and last year was "unacceptable" (but accepted). I'm not hopeful of beating an ACC team twice in a row.

Anyone's prediction change after yesterday? We have capable offense and the defense seemed stout...still vs Stony Brook, not many answers, as they were so bad last year we can't gauge their improvement, if any. However, we seemed to execute well and had no procedural penalties like delays and false starts or turnovers, which we used to rack up. Those things are valuable against any team we're going to play. I thought we looked "well-oiled" after the first quarter.
No... Stony Brook may be the worst team in all of Division I (FBS or FCS). They were small up front, clearly a step slower at the skill positions, playing a freshman QB, and their best athlete got hurt in the second quarter.

A win is a win in week one... But we really gleaned nothing from last night. We played our entire 2-deep plus some and steamrolled an absolutely awful FCS team.

The good news is, VT looked bad against Vandy, their QB is hurt, and fans are calling to Pry to be fired in week 1. Hopefully we can make all that work for us next week and play well.

About last night... Stony Brook edition

So to start a new season with a "W" is always better than the alternative... Here are some of the good, the bad, and the ugly observations from last night's win.

Editor's Note: Stony Brook is probably the worst Division I team in the county (FBS or FCS). They looked like a 4A high school squad.

The Good --
• We dominated the line of scrimmage, especially on the defensive line. Played well against the run, got pressure, moved guys around all night.
• Tuner showed what he can do as a lead back... He's our fastest RB and we are going to need him to grow into "the guy."
• WR by committee worked... Metcalf is a very nice addition. He's that kind of security blanket slot guy that QBs love.
• QB play wasn't an issue... 3 played, all did some good things, but the caliber of opponent makes it hard to assess.
• We protected the ball and did well in field position all night.
• Verhoff made a FG longer than 40 yards and Totten bombed it through the end zone consistently.

The Bad --
• Yet another slow start... It didn't matter that we did next to nothing in the first half against Stony Brook. It will matter against equal or better opponents.
• Mother Nature... It wasn't exactly raucous before the lightning, but afterward it was like watching a football game at a funeral. (Not anyone's fault)
• Secondary play... They weren't necessarily bad, but they remain untested. Stony Brook's passing game was awful and so was their offensive line.

The Ugly --
• The two-color tarps... Rain... New prison fencing around the stadium (I mean "expanded concourse")

Overall, take the win and start getting ready for next week... No one is going to ask me, but I would probably start Braxton. He looked healthy, fast, and he wasn't afraid to let it go down the field.

Help dumb this down for me

Wrong, moron. Get a calculator.

“Today” would basically be the evening of the 20th where you are. If it has to be completed by the 27th, that means you only have six days, not seven like your attempt at a joke was.

I’m not sure where this argument originated, but if, on the day you begin counting, you use the exact same time as the day you finish counting, it’s sevens days.

Today is September 1st, just before 1 pm. Let’s call it 1 pm. If something is due Sunday, September 8th at 1 pm, you would have 7 total days to turn it in. That’s seven, 24 hour days.

So, if you start something on the 20th and it’s due on the 27th, I don’t see how it can be anything less than seven days if the times are the same. If the times are slightly off, you might be able to argue 6.5 days or even 7.5 days. But I don’t know how you get just six days out of that.

FOOTBALL GAME THREAD Gamethread: Stonybrook

From my first game observations, Cole and Braxton throw a more catchable ball. Stone throws at 1 speed, all or nothing. But my guess is Stone will start. Players say he is the most accurate and consistent.
I thought they all played well. But accuracy isn't really the concern. Split second decision making is what we need. Not having that is what leads to QB turnovers more than accuracy. I mean all those guys can put a ball through a tire. But in a game with defense coming at you, I felt like Earle, at least in this game, was more rigid and not as decisive, at least early on. He got better. Cole looked uncomfortable for a couple plays then shined. But long enough for me to think "Not this again." Braxton seemed like the one that came off the bench most ready to do the thing. I think he gives us the best chance of a quick start on offense. We have had slow starts for a long time on offense. I think we're lucky to have all three and if any goes down I feel like we'll still be okay for the first time in a long time.
