Who in their right mind is saying we need higher taxes when we have a terrible spending problem?

The Pentagon failed its 7th consecutive audit (budget: $826B). The Department of Education just failed to receive a clean audit for its 3rd time in a row (budget: $268B). USDA showed significant deficiencies across multiple divisions (budget: $203B). Auditors declined to give a clean opinion to AmeriCorps (budget: $1B).

- $236 Billion in improper payments in federal programs in 2023
- $200 Billion in pandemic relief went to fraud/abuse
- The U.S. failed to track $1 Billion in Ukraine Aid

"In FY2024, U.S. Congress provided $516 billion to programs whose authorizations previously expired under federal law," the DOGE X account posted on Nov. 16. "Nearly $320 billion of that $516 billion expired more a decade ago."

Most federal workers don’t physically show up, yet the cost of maintaining & providing energy for govt office buildings is $15BN/year (not counting billions more spent on office furnishings). The government owns 7,967 vacant buildings.

In 2023 NIH spent $759 million on workforce diversity and outreach, over $611,000 on "Evaluating Microaggressions among Latinx Individuals with Obesity," and $87,944 on the "Role of the estrous cycle and nucleus accumbens signaling on incubation of oxycodone craving in female rats.

The federal government loses between $233 billion and $521 billion each year due to fraud.

TAX THE RICH!!

Fine. For argument's sake, I agree. Let's tax the hell out of the rich. Awesome!

Now with that out of the way, what is your opinion of the billions upon billions of wasteful government spending? What do you think should be done about that?

Not even a consideration until we stop borrowing money to give the rich tax cuts.

TAX THE RICH!!

TAX THE RICH!!

So say we raise taxes on the rich to 100%. You no longer have an argument.

That said, what do you do about the wasteful spending?

Now...You're argument is like you (government) being paid by your employer (taxpayers) a salary of $10k a week.

Your spending increases to $20k a week, including just blowing money right and left. You (government) are about to go bankrupt. Does it make sense that you run to your employer (taxpayers) and demand more so you can pay your bills or do you curb your spending first?

Stop being a dumbass, dumbass.

No. It's like YOU (the govt) getting paid $10k a week, and your employer continues to lower your pay until you have to borrow money to pay the bills. When you ask your employer for more money, he tells you to cut your spending.

That's right moron. The taxpayer is paying the govt (you) less and less money and now the govt has to borrow money to pay the bills and when the govt needs more money YOU tell them to cut spending. You're an idiot magat.

Dumbass. Stop being a dumbass. I didn't say cut spending. I said cut hundreds of billions in WASTEFUL spending.

The taxpayers aren’t the government and I'm a taxpayer, dumbass. The taxpayer is asked to pay more to cover the government's wasteful spending.

That's bullshit.

The government is wasting our tax dollars by the hundreds of billions and you don't want to talk about wasteful spending. You just want to talk about spending more. That's just plain stupidity.

You are a dumbass, dumbass.

I didn't say cut spending.
we have a terrible spending problem
The taxpayer is asked to pay more to cover the government's wasteful spending.
Nope. Just the rich. They've undeservedly had their taxes cut by 20 TRILLION over the last 4 decades.

The government is wasting our tax dollars by the hundreds of billions
Republicans have wasted federal revenue by the TRILLIONS.

Stay stupid. Stupid.

Why chop my people's posts to deceive?

Did I separate parties when I said we need to cut wasteful spending?

Pay attention, dumbass.

I quoted your exact statement. Stupid.

Seems to me that we are borrowing money to pay for our out of control spending.

Want to know how to "afford" tax cuts. CUT SPENDING!!!!!!!!!!

Federal net outlays as a percent of GDP was 22.3% in 1982. The ONLY 2 times it exceeded that was during and shortly after 2 republican recessions when stimulus was used to get us out of those recessions. In 2023 the federal net outlay as a percentage of GDP at 22.1% is STILL BELOW what it was under Reagan.

ON THE OTHER HAND...

In 1982 Federal receipts were at 18.4% of GDP. Federal receipts/GDP since then have never been that much except for 3 years under Clinton and 1 year under Biden. Conservative tax breaks are breaking the bank.

WE HAVE A REVENUE PROBLEM

WE HAVE A REVENUE PROBLEM

Hey, dumbass...Are you happy with the way our government is spending our money?

Also, until we cut the wasteful spending, how do you know we have a revenue problem?

How do you know how much you MUST have to heat and cool your house, if you need new windows and insulation installed? Do you waste your money or do you install windows and insulation?

Just stop being a dumbass, dumbass and feeding our greedy, bloated and wasteful spending government.

If your boss keeps cutting your paycheck year after year after year, any sane person would understand not enough money is the problem.

Dumbass...I asked how would you know how much money you need to pay your heating and cooling bills if your house wasn't insulated and you needed new windows? Would you just pay the additional costs or would you reduce your costs by installing new windows and insulating?

Do we spend more than we take in? Yes that means a spending problem. You know that there is tons of government waste.

There is nothing that comes close to the spending problem that is the spending problem we have of borrowing money to give the rich their tax cuts. Nothing comes close. 20 TRILLION.

National debt is appx...
36 trillion
-20 trillion lost revenue from tax cuts
- 5 trillion for war on terror
-1 trillion for Great Recession stimulus
-5 trillion covid relief
-2.8 trillion natural disasters 1980 - 2024

Without those items above, the federal govt would have a balanced budget.

The top 1% of Americans have 44 trillion in total assets. We could take it all and pay off the national debt.

Of course then they have nothing, and since they pay 25% of all taxes that income stream would disappear. That means our deficit would stay at $2T a year even without interest payments. We would also destroy the job market, the stock market and the value of assets held by everyone else (because you would flood the market selling their assets). Plus, who can buy the assets of the top 1% except the top 1%? I mean who’s going to buy a $300MM yacht if there are no more billionaires? That means it’s really not a $300MM boat anymore.

So yeah, tax the rich, few good for a few years and then realize the deficit will be $4T a year instead of $2T and you be right back to square 1 in 5-7 years.

Part of the key to it is to grow the US economy. That is how you generate more revenue(for everyone). Undo red tape regulations, streamline processes, and grow the economy. Bring back the industrial base. The economic growth needs to be higher.

You don't make sense, dumbass. When is the last time the government's funds were cut? They keep getting more tax dollars and spending more. Lots of wasteful and unnecessary spending.

That is the dumbest comparison have I have heard in regard to govt revenue. First of all the size of the federal govt needs cut. Second, the regulations stifling our businesses and innovation need cut and streamlined. That will increase revenue by bringing that to the United States and making the economy bigger and more productive.

tremendously stupid and ignorant analogy by greed, especially when the only decrease in federal revenue since 2016 occurred in 2023. revenue has incresaed every other year since trump took office. you have to go all the way back to 2008 and 2009 during that recession for the last decrease in federal revenue.

GDP is at a record high. It's been that way Biden's entire presidency.

That's already been accomplished.

You're an idiot. Federal revenue decreased in 2020 under your orange jesus.

You're a liar. Want proof?? You're here.

Damn! You must be pissed over Democrats removing him from the ticket, right?

yes, it did, ~$40 million. so twice since trump took office in 2016, once under trump, once under biden. yore analogy is still, like you, laughable.

It requires idiots like you to support the federal government borrowing money to give tax cuts for the rich. And...

You're a liar. Want proof?? You're here.

The killing of the CR Omnibus bill was a huge victory. It continues to also demonstrate Repubs in congress still dont get what happened in November. Their willingness to pass a 1500 page CR is criminal. "Business as usual" was held back this time. This is the kind of shit that is bankrupting our country. Not a tax cut for citizens that are paying the bills.

You're an idiot.

What's the problem with the following situation?....

You have a business that has continued to increase production year after year after year.

You have decreased spending as a percentage of that production.

Your net income as a percentage of that production has decreased.

You have to borrow money to keep the business operating.

What's going on??

You're being told to stop wasteful and unnecessary spending, dumbass.

You're cutting COSTS not INCOME.

Asking for MORE income is ludicrous when you're WASTING so much money.

Stop being a dumbass, dumbass.
