I know we are currently thinking about the coming football and soccer seasons but prior to Hamrick being relieved I thought there was supposed to be a “big” announcement regarding a financial gift. It’s been sometime now. Anyone have an inside info or good tumors? I’m 74 now and have been waiting all these years. Looks like I get to continue waiting.

Let’s try this again, since the moderator nazis are extremely touchy today and are doing their best to hurt the board:

Stay positive. At your age, a tumor is right around the corner.
Well I hope something other than a tumor is around the corner but thanks I guess.

I thought I had read a few weeks ago, shortly after announcing the AD's move to his new role or in that same announcement, that they are planning to pick this up again in the Spring of '22. They are going to rebid the project on a scaled back complex since building costs have increased dramatically since before COVID. I also recall it being said that they plan to break ground in 2023 IIRC. If I can find time to search and can find the article, I'll post it a link.

They SAY a lot of things. They just do not have the money. COVID has nothing to do with it, they bids were rejected long before the panic/pandemic was a thing. They just don’t have the money.

Like it or not, giving to a college, particularly for athletics, is a QPQ for most givers. The guy doing the fund raising is a lame duck and cannot really offer a potential giver more than his name on a plaque. Combined with the uncertainty due to realignement, NIL costs, and the state’s population bleed, about the university’s continued participation in athletics at the top division, there is little chance, of them reaching any $ amount that will be significant.

Marshall has a decades long issue with the truth. It’s not outright lying the majority of the time, it’s twisting numbers, facts, and reality to fit their version of the truth.

As opposed to WVU who used tax dollars/TIF funding for their ballpark.
When built, ours will be through private funding.
WVU has lied for decades about being self sustaining in athletics. To me that means no outside help at all. We all know that’s not true.

Well I haven’t donated dollar one to wv.

In before some of the many Marshall fixated Spamite lurkers here post their thoughtful comeback of denying the truth of your statements.

Good job.

Most likely why the ACC hasn't called either.

Back to the original post. Answer is: "The plans are out there, . . . Somewhere". By now everybody who has posted even semi regularly should know that MU ALWAYS has plans. Plans being formulated, plans being discussed, plans being revised and refined, plans being printed, plans awaiting the ink on signatures of approval to dry, etc., etc. Over 5 decades of involvement with and interest in Marshall have taught me ONE THING: that Everybody at the school HAS PLANS, including the latest Janitor-trainee just hired yesterday!!

I thought that was Mike's job now - to raise money for the Herd Rises campaign? That supposedly included the baseball complex, renovating Gullickson into a basketball practice facility and upgrades to the pool. Or so I thought.

O'Malley was quoted not too long ago that plans were moving forward.

And, like it or not, giving to a college is, in 99% of the cases, a QPQ. MH can offer potential donors nothing more than his name on a plaque. I’m sure he is doing his best. It is not enough.

It’s dead, Jim.

On a baseball side note, the orphaned and now semi-pro West Virginia Power, their contract with the electric company having expired, will rename the team tonight. Will be the Power for the first game of a DH and a new name the second. Rumor is it is the “Charleston Dirty Birds”. Why I don’t know. Ballpark will be quietly renamed as just Charleston Ballpark over the winter.

From today's paper, although not from MU.

The mayor previously said that some of the funds would be used to clear the former Flint Group Pigments property, part of which was purchased by Marshall University for a future baseball stadium. Williams expanded on that comment on Monday, adding that it is not yet clear how much of the city’s American Rescue Plan Act funds will be used or if possible funding may come from the federal infrastructure bill. The city cannot help fund the baseball stadium construction, but the university needs aid in clearing the site, he said. A road would also need to be redesigned near the stadium’s parking lot, though funds for this is covered by non-ARPA funds, he said. Williams added that this help from the city would be subject to council approval. He estimated the cost of this project being $10 million, with $8 million being used for clearing the site and $2 million for designing the street.
“The stadium must be opened for use by the spring of 2024,” the mayor said. “They can’t have a stadium open by the spring of 2024, then we will utilize that money elsewhere.”

I hate to say it but the last I heard was that, yes, there are new plans. Still a lot going on behind the scenes. I would't bet one way or the other on exactly when, where, or how.

Apart from any ARPA funds the City may have and utilize, wonder if City officials have explored or looked into any possible funding from the EPA or other Federal Agency which may authorize the expenditure of so called Brownsfield clean up monies which are used to clean up former industrial and other sites which may contain toxic or dangerous substances, chemicals, etc.

The bids came in about 8 mil to high, which called for a total design redo. I would hope Mike can get the money raised and move the project forward. If they don't do it now, they never will.

Either make some improvements to Route 2 Field or drop the sport (which I would hate).

It was announced this summer that there would be new plans drawn up. COVID had a huge impact on the prices of building materials so I'm sure that played a big role in the new cost estimates too. Labor costs also increased significantly in the past year and a half as people were choosing to collect the higher unemployment payments triggered by COVID versus going back to work. I think that I remember hearing that it increased by over 20% in the manufacturing sector since the COVID restrictions were implemented, so I would guess that construction labor increases were relatively close to that.

It always makes me shake my head that the state of WV either will not or cannot help make this happen. For a D-1 school like marshall to not have a on campus baseball field is an embarrassment. If you want to know why we keep getting overlooked in conference re-alignment then look no further. It may not be the only reason but is certainly on the short list.

How much money has Hamrick raised so far? Nothing has been reported for some time.
MH isnt raising money for the baseball complex. Hes collecting his check and going home, as he should. That was Gilbert's FU to the BOG. imo

The lack of baseball facilities is a symptom of larger problems.

So Mike's comments about serving as a special assistant in charge of fundraising for facilities is a lie?

So he wants to go out as a failure in his last job for MU. I would think he wants to get the field done as a legacy to what he has accomplished.
Board of Governors meeting today regarding Baseball Complex per reliable source.

to what end? why would he be a failure, no one else has been able to it. Besides its MU that took his phone away
