That won’t last long and really doesn’t count. The Big 10 and Pac 12 schools aren’t being ranked. Usually, that would be an additional 8-10 teams on the rankings. Now that the Big 10 has announced a start, the AP will begin adding those teams in the rankings now.

You’re absolutely right in this and they’ll pinch out some teams, while not playing a game until Oct. 24. Long story short, Big 10 schools are going to just take up space with little chance of losing any ground for a full month. The poll is about to become virtually stagnant for about 20% of its teams.
