FBI Takes Possession of Hillary's Home Server

Did Colin Powell have his own home server and delete God knows how many emails? Do you have proof that Colin Powell transmitted classified info on speedo all email account?

We could answer that IF we had access to his emails. We don't. He didn't retain any.

One example - the opening sentence of the last paragraph: "The bottom line is this: No one will likely ever know what was deleted from Clinton's server."

There is a very common and mistaken belief that deleted email (even from a dedicated server) is lost to the ether for eternity. That is simply not true, as an absolute -- it MAY be lost, but the likelihood is that most (if not all) of these emails exist in some form somewhere.

I'm far from a uber-techie, but even I know that email is carved-up and transmitted as packets of information across the Internet/web and at the very least may be stitched back together (esp. by computer forensic experts). Moreover, email tends to linger on host servers and servers of those that receive emails, in addition to the actual emails being retained by the recipient (all of which can be reached by discovery request and/or subpoena). IF the proper entities/agencies want to really get this information, despite the server-wipe, much of it may be retrievable (obviously, through great effort). The idea that this info is irretrievably lost is misleading.

I approve of this post.

Then don't quote from politifact

At least Powell acknowledged that fact instead of hiding a server in her home, wiping it clean, etc

You're comparing politifact to faux news?

What's the ethical difference between wiping it clean and not making copies?

Politifact has an agenda just like fox news. And you seriously think intentionally wiping clean a private server is the same ethically as not making copies?

Faux news and politifact are not in the same hemisphere .
Whether the emails have no copies or are wiped clean leaves the same condition...no emails.

I have worked for nearly that amount and was going to say the same thing. We had our annual security training yesterday in which it was reiterated that mishandling (using personal email on state issued phone or state email on private phone) would be immediate termination and likely prosecution.
trailherd... I notice you said "State" phone...

That is true but you claimed they were ethically the same. I hate to tell you that they are in no way ethically equivalent. Especially considering obamas exec order re maintaining electronic comm

I must be missing something here. Didn't Obama's executive order take effect after Hillary had left office?

I did, but I handle secure federal data. The security training was for our handling of that data. The prosecution refereed to a violation of federal law.

At any rate, does anyone believe that WV has stricter controls on email than the US State Dept.? Sad if true . . .

I say you conservative types end up disappointed.
Oh I definitely think Hilary will bide her time blaming the vast right wing conspiracy and the general public will lose interest. I don't think it will hurt her come Election Day unless she has sick pictures of kids or something on her server.

That the 8th benghazi investigation is ongoing proves there is no right wing conspiracy theory.

I do know from my time in WV State Government that we had rather interesting rules governing the use of a State Wireless Phone an State Email Accounts... Hence why most of us used private emails and wireless phones... LOL...

So,,, When is the arrest warrant going to be issue? Still waiting... Tick, Tick, Tick... LOL...
Probably right after Rove gets arrested like libs promised. LOL? You seriously laughed out loud at that?

Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton entrusted her email server to an IT firm that was not cleared to handle classified materials, according to the chief spokesman for the Defense Security Service.

The DSS is an arm of the Defense Department and is the only federal agency authorized to approve private sector company access to sensitive or confidential material.

The agency reviews and approves private contractors to assure they have secure facilities and approves security clearances for employees to clear them for access to sensitive or classified materials.

Since 2013, Clinton used Platte River Networks, a small Denver-based company, to upgrade and maintain her private email server at her home in Chappaqua, New York.

About 13,000 companies have received FCL or facility-wide clearance. But Platte River is not one of them.

“Platte River is not cleared” to have access to classified material, stated Cindy McGovern, chief public affairs officer for DSS in a telephone interview with The Daily Caller News Foundation.

Sen. Ron Johnson, chairman of the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs, told the DCNF that the Platte River involvement “raises serious questions” about the security surrounding Secretary Clinton’s server over the last two years.

“The revelation that Secretary Clinton used a private company, Platte River Networks, to maintain her personal server raises questions about what steps the company took to preserve and secure sensitive information in Secretary Clinton’s email,” Johnson said.

The DSS provides clearances to 30 federal departments and agencies, including the State Department.

Alex McGeorge, the head of threat intelligence at the IT cybersecurity firm Immunity told TheDCNF that all facilities approved for access to classified materials need a “SCIF” — or Sensitive Compartmented Information Facility — also known as a hardened room.

“It’s a room that is resistant to eavesdropping and unauthorized entry limited to personnel with security clearances. That would be a room that where data coming in and out of the room is tightly controlled,” he said.

According to the Associated Press, the intelligence community inspector general reported to Congress Monday that Hillary’s emails contained at least two messages with information considered Top Secret.

For servers that contain Top Secret information, “you would have to have very compartmentalized clearance to see. Those standards are much higher,” McGeorge said.

The DSS current mission is carried out under the National Industrial Security Program (NISP), the rules of which were established by President Clinton in 1993 with Executive Order 12829.

Platte River has not responded to requests for comment from TheDCNF.

Bill Kristol made an interesting observation. No one in senior positions in the WH, DoD, or IC is even pretending to defend her.

Yesterday during a stump speech, Hillary said that she's turned over the server (didn't provide any details on what was done to it before turning it over though, weird) & that she loves Snapchat because, "messages disappear all by themselves." Pretty ballsy to be joking about a situation where the majority (according to Politico, CNN, The Hill, etc...) think you lied. She went on to say it's politics as usual & even though she turned over her (wiped) server to the DoJ, she won't "get down in the mud with them."

She does understand who "them" is, right? - the DoJ, the FBI & the IC.

The email "controversy" began with the GOP Benghazi conspiracy theory. Follow along.
Because having an consulate attacked with an ambassador killed don't deserve an investigation into what happened. Oh and I hate to tell you Hilary brought the email crap on herself

She knew she would have to turn it over eventually. In the month leading up to this she probably hired her own forensic experts to comb and wipe that thing. Reminds me of Red in Shawshank - "Clean as a virgins honey pot."
