fyi Charles Huff..

Yeah, I said 6-6. Looks like 8-4, 8-5 counting the bowl loss. You said, I believe 11-1, which is progress towards maturity for you, as you actually admitted that OSU had a chance to beat us. OK. I was off by two wins. Appy and Coastal are not what they have been recently (and, as well-run programs, they will demand better and get right in short order). I missed just how weak the opposition turned out to be. Off by two games.

The difference is you will celebrate 8-5. You celebrate mediocrity.

Ahhh yes. Conditional wins again.

And the MAC teams were world beaters!!!

How interesting that Pauxatoney Sam crawled out of his hole 2 days early after a Herd victory. Usually Tuesdays after a win (to give the gloaters a chance to exhaust themselves) & moments after a Saturday loss so he can thump his ancient chest and proclaim himself king of prognosticators!

First off. My response about the SOS wasn’t to you. And it was in reply to someone that said it was in the 100’s

As for your second comment. I got nothin. You make up your own rules as you go.

We have 8 wins which is more than you ever imagined. We are winning games in many different ways. Offense, defense snd special teams.

All led by a coach. A coach that also out the roster and staff together to get us to this point.

Nothing makes you happy. You are doing this just for spite. Congrats
Damn right Aaron!!

First, I never said JMU was down this year. I said App and Coastal were.

We play in the best G5, yes, and excluding Marshall the best teams are Louisiana, JMU, Texas State, South Alabama, and Ga So. So we have missed all the top teams so far except Ga So, the game we lost. Our best in conference is our newest over ODU. They are ranked 7th in the conference.

Because of this, despite playing in the toughest G5 conference and playing Ohio State and VT, our SOS is still over 100, very similar to the Doc CUSA days.

This year is very much like 2015 when we won 10 games, but the schedule was so weak who knows if we were good or not.

If we beat JMU on the road, that’s a good win. If that happens we will likely go play Louisiana at their place. That would be a good win.

"If we beat JMU, I will admit, and as hard of a pill it is to swallow because I would rather sell my kids or family to prostitution and human trafficking, I will admit I was wrong about Huff and MU."

Fixed it for you.

The greatest and best thing you can do at this point, is remove yourself from the board.

The 7 FBS teams we have beaten are a combined 28-48. None have a winning record. I don’t care what ranking service you look at or what they rank our SOS, we haven’t beat a team with a winning record and the teams we have beaten have an average 4-7 record after 11 games.

We lost to a 5-6 team and a 7-4 team in addition to a 10-1 great team.

We need to beat JMU to give any appearance of legitimacy to our record.

That keeps being mentioned. First, it is false. The FCS opponent has a winning record and was in the top 20 yesterday. Second, you're now removing two games (FCS + next week) so basing it on a 10 game schedule instead of what could possibly be a 13 or 14 game schedule.

The season isn't over. Marshall could very easily have a win next week (which would qualify), have App State win next week which would be another victory over a winning record, and have a couple of teams that could finish over .500 with wins next week and in a bowl game.

Louisiana, which will probably finish 10-2, will have a win against a 7-5 team and possibly another 7-5 teams. That isn't much different than what Marshall has or will have.

Any more ifs you want to toss in there?

Where we stand today is where we stand. IF we beat JMU I already said that adds legitimacy to our record. Who cares what Louisiana’s record is, they aren’t on our schedule.

Yes, IF you were honest, you'd admit that the victory over Stony Brooke ruins your attempt.
IF you were honest, you'd admit that it doesn't make sense to make the claim you have by not counting one of the games and doing it with still 2-3 games left to play.
IF you were honest, you'd admit that there are opportunities still for Marshall opponents to finish with records above .500.

Who cares what Louisiana’s record is, they aren’t on our schedule.
It shows that even a 10-2 team, in a G5, will have wins against very similar teams that Marshall win.

Is having two wins against 7-5 teams all that different than having three wins against 6-6 teams? Nope.

Stoney Brooke is an FCS team. They would be a bottom of the barrel CUSA team. Beating them shows nothing and proves nothing. They aren’t NDST or some other FCS powerhouse. They are in 6th place in their FCS conference.

That win means nothing just like our loss to Ohio State means nothing because both were foregone conclusions before kickoff.

Two of the teams you are using to potentially prop up Marshall, App and Coastal, because they might get bowl eligible, we’re also both beaten by Louisiana. So if we pick up wins against two bowl teams they increase their number equally. They beat their sub 500 ACC team, we lost to ours. We both lost to a top 20 team. They have beaten 2 conference teams in the top 7, we have beaten zero in the top 7.

Ok. So we are using the banker SOS ranking system now?

Basically one where you simply look at a win and loss record and call it a day?

Gotcha.

1) They have a winning record. That, alone, destroys your argument. But now you want to argue the quality of the team versus your original claim (winning record). Fine, but that means you'd have to also destroy your argument Marshall had a win against a 5-6 SEC team which would surely be better than a 6-5 Sun Belt team. Consistency in your arguments would be good.

2) They wouldn't be bottom of the barrel in C-USA. They'd beat Kennesaw State, MTSU, and probably UTEP. They'd be about an equal with FIU and @The Real SamC 's favorite team, NMSU.

3) It is "Stony" without the E.

They have beaten 2 conference teams in the top 7, we have beaten zero in the top 7.
This is what I mean by lack of consistency. On one hand, you want to use Sagarin for your argument. On the other hand, you ignore Sagarin. App State is in Sagarin's top 7 Sun Belt teams.

So suddenly you don't care about everyone else except when it suits your useless argument??

Louisiana is likely to play the winner of the East, which could be us if MU wins next week.

It absolutely matters, especially to your dumb argument.

You’re too stupid to be in this conversation, go away.

Aaron, I’m interested in your counter argument to show me that the 7 conference teams we beat are good regardless of their 28-48 combined record, the fact that they are in 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th in the east and 5th and 7th in the west, and none have a winning record.

Rifle, if Stony Brooke played a full FBS schedule they would have a losing record. That’s why I exclude them.

JMU and Ohio are the only non-CUSA (Jacksonville, Liberty and Sam Houston) schools with 8 or more wins ranked below us in the Massey Composite. There are 30 teams with 8 or less wins ranked ahead of us. The 40’computers used in the average don’t think our SOS, SOR is impressive.

You’re better than this.

There are only eight non-CUSA G5 schools with 8 or more wins.

So what you’re saying is that Marshall has the 6th toughest schedule out of 8 that fits your criteria? Not much of an argument for you, especially since you have excluded an entire G5 conference from counting.

Why are you neglecting the 30 teams ranked in front is that have the same or fewer wins?

I didn’t exclude CUSA, just pointed out that they are by far the weakest conference so of course wins carry less weight.

Reporting over on Sunbelt Conference Talk that officials with Southern Miss flew up yesterday to interview Huff……

Certainly great news. But hard to believe. USM is at best a lateral step, if not a step down. USM plays in the giant shadow of the SEC, we only have to worry about USPAM (which is having inept coach issues of its own) and the laughable "Big" 12.

Is CS actually showing leadership and initiative? He has not shown any up until now, but letting CH know that he is O U T at the end of the Randy's Wrecker Service and Sport Bar Bowl, presented by Jim Bob's Transmissions, before Christmas is leadership.

Or is the common, and I think wrong, opinion on here that somehow running the university, which is the most important job in the state after governor, is really this side job and really BS is secretly AD, and it is he man really pulling the strings? BS is a business guy and the CUSTOMERS' rejection this mediocre product is something that a business guy would get behind fixing.

Either way, CH free in 25, and the rebuilding can begin.

It would be something if he wins out and we can't retain his services.
I guess the AD has some wiggle room with "I want to hire my own guy" but it could be a bad look.
You're assuming that we actually want to. There have been rumors since the off season that Huff was never coming back. Those rumors got some credibility when his wife stepped down from her job.

Which would make absolutely zero sense at all if that’s the case. If Huff wins out, wins the conference and a bowl game, why in the world would we not want him back.

That defies explanation for real.

But people loved Doc and his 7 wins a year average. He was THE man. And he could have fielded a team for the next remake of the Longest Yard.

Just going off of rumors. Huff has been interviewing for jobs since he took this job. He's always had one foot out the door. We all knew he was going to want to move up and on from us if he had the chance. However there has also been soured relationships between Huff and administration and Huff and coaches on his staff.

Allegedly we offered him an extension some time before or during the early part of last season and Huff turned it down. He wants something more. Well then the season ended under .500 and the admin decided that instead of letting him go we would see how this year played out. His wife quit her job before or right when the season started signaling they were probably leaving. There were rumors that Huff had told the admin early on this year that he was leaving no matter what.

Relationships have soured and it appears both parties just want to go their separate ways.

The only way Huff was going to be here next year was our administration REALLY wanting him to stay and there not being any other job on the table for Huff.

Large portions of this fan base wanted Doc fired every year. When he got his extension after 2014 people were upset. No. Doc was never THE man. Some of us may have argued that he was a better coach than some game him credit for, but even those of us myself included, jumped off of that wagon after 2016. The vast majority were ready to move on from Doc after 2016.

Huff doesn't want to be here. That's why we don't want him back. He has made it abundantly clear he's leaving no matter what, whether it is a lateral move (USM) or otherwise. I wouldn't be shocked to see him take a coordinator position.

He has had a good season, he also let his ego cost us 1 maybe 2 wins that would have had us in the playoff conversation (and would get him the attention from other schools that he wants). Time for Rich Rod, or whoever the rumors for us will be.

The tragic part is we should have hired Chesney last year, instead he went to JMU.

So one bad season and you fire a head coach?
If you're Bama, Clemson, Notre Dame or a handful of other P4's who can toss money around, sure, burn it at the 50yard line. Even Texas A&M kept their head coaches around despite the bad records (by their standards) and high salaries.
Funny thing is he turned that team around and they actually improved each season after, eventually making it back to the championship game.

With all the supposed disadvantages MU has in terms of budget, recruiting, resources, etc., and the frailty of the G5 that you have to keep winning to even stay afloat, it's remarkable MU recovered the way they did as fast as they did.

Minus some exceptional programs, most seasons after a championship are absolutely terrible for YEARS in the G5.

I don't get why people are so quick to dismiss a head coach who had prior success over a single bad season...
Then again...the same people are going to be critical of an AD who didn't attempt to retain a HC who had prior subpar seasons over a single good season...

An ego would not have changed QB's when he saw the original starter wasn't working.

He didn't make the change until our 3rd conference game. The Va Tech game he decided he knew better than what was obvious to everyone... also the fact that Va Tech struggled the week before with a mobile QB is even more of an indictment.

Then he waffled and started Earle in the Ga Southern game and kept yo-yoing the QBs. Because he was in his words "throwing his curveball". Like watch the App State presser. He thought he had outsmarted everyone and that he could play both QBs. instead of going with the better option from the jump. Ego

The only way MU would make the playoffs is if they lost to Ohio state by less than 3 scores and won everything else.
I didn't say we'd make the playoff. I'm saying if we were sitting at 10-1 right now with our only loss being at Ohio State we would be in the conversation. Not necessarily in, but in the conversation.

But again, we decided Stone was the better option at Va Tech and we decided we'd just go back and forth and let the Ga Southern game slip away.

He kinda did outsmart everyone with App, he absolutely smoked them.

“I apologize to all of Herd Nation,” Huff said. “I didn’t do a good job as head coach of getting our guys to finish in the last 4 minutes of the game. I take extreme ownership of it. We’ve got to find a way to get our guys to hold on to the ball and finish out the game.”

Have they lost since then?
Yes or no...

Regardless of when he changed, he changed and committed to it, now MU is in a good position to win the East.
