Allowing hostile foreign govts to operate mis-information campaigns through US information companies is detrimental to US citizens. When a company, like Facebook, who vastly dominates social media, doesn't or can't operate in a way that prohibits these misinformation campaigns, then regulations, in some form, will and should occur

So you’re suggesting the Govt should penalize and regulate the big 3 news networks for continuing to report on a fake, foreigner created, “intelligence” dossier that attempted to discourage voters from voting for Trump??

News is regulated. The story you mentioned was disclaimered as part of the dossier during the reports. Media can be sued if the story is blatantly false (see GM vs Dateline in the 90s). Plus, "news" can be fined or lose their license thru the FTC if things go too far....but I'm sure you're aware of that.

Facebook, on the other hand, has no liability it seems.

Both the TV networks and FB fall under various FCC laws and regulation currently. Both the TV networks and FB fall under various FTC laws and regulations too.

But as a matter of law...it's a little hard to be held liable when you voluntarily join a social network and willingly "agree" to their terms and conditions. It pays to read the fine print. If you don't like it. Take your account down. No one is forcing you to put your private information into the WWW.
