more like the idea that when it came to military tactics the nazis, and to a lesser extent, the japs did it by the book, so we were able to prepare for that, plan, counter, etc. with the viet cong, and with isis (and other islamic terrorist groups) they really aren't by the book at all, they play by an entirely different set of engagement rules. using old standard military tactics struggled to work against the viet cong, and they'll struggle to work against isis.

First, I agree 100%......Never should have gone to Iraq in the first place. But, no telling what might have happened in the years since. Anyway......It's done.
Now that we are in the mess we are in, we have to do something......If you'll read the article from The Atlantic that we've been discussing, you'll get a better understanding of what we are facing.......They (ISIS) are never going to stop......Never. Not until their prophesy is fulfilled. Which they believe is a great battle with Rome (But the US, etc will do fine) led by the Anti-Christ......It's prophesized and they believe all of the signs point towards the End of Times......It is their ultimate goal and they will do anything to achieve it.
I'm not going to get into all of the details, read the article, it does a great job explaining........But they are going to continue on their course of enlarging the Caliphate. They will continue to slaughter all non-believers and they will continue to attack the west until they get what they want......They don't just want their own country and to be left alone......They want the prophesy to be fulfilled........Which is the final battle.
This is like a bad movie.....But unfortunately it's real......The storm is coming, nothing is going to stop it unless we act. I don't want this......I have military age children, with military age friends, and a number of friends in the military......I'm sick thinking that they may have to go to war.....But I'm also sick with the thought of the world that they are going to have to live in, if we don't do something.
Very few Americans truly want this and I know Obama doesn't want it but they (ISIS) want it, whether we like it or not......It's happening.
Do we wait until an American plane is attacked or hundreds are killed in a major American city???
Do we just put our heads in the sand and hope for the best? Pray that we stop every terrorist attempt?
Remember....They only have to get it right once, we have to get it right every time.

Before I read the article, is it going to tell me how we destroy radical extremists, particularly the jihadis, so that we don't have to fight them in the middle east ever again?
