Just Booked Another Cruise

Does anybody else here enjoy cruises? I think they are one of the best vacations possible for a variety of reasons. The price is very reasonable, unlimited food, unlimited entertainment, karaoke, gambling, getting to see different/exotic countries. It’s like a floating hotel. You can jog, work out, play basketball, swim, or lay in the sun and do nothing. It’s a very relaxing and fun time to be on the ship, and the ports are really great too.

My wife and I just booked a cruise that will take us to Cozumel Mexico, Belize City Belize, Roatan Honduras, and Costa Maya Mexico. The only repeat stop for us is Cozumel, which is very nice, at least if you don’t go too far inland.

We have been on three cruises so far. We have been to Nassau Bahamas (and also a private island in the Bahamas), Aruba, Curaçao , Grand Turk (Turks and Caicos), Grand Cayman, Cozumel Mexico, and Montego Bay Jamaica.

We always take the kids on a vacation, then my wife and I go on a separate vacation by ourselves, usually a cruise.

I absolutely love cruises. Anybody else cruise a lot? Any suggestions on great destinations?

I've never done one, and don't have any desire for one of those types. However, the wife and I have been entertaining doing one of the domestic cruises (on smaller ships), primarily the New England cruise. Those seem to be very pricey though, so still researching it.

I have been on one. I can take it or leave it. I feel trapped even though the ship is huge. I would rather be out running around doing something else. I have been to Honduras. Wasn't very nice.

I get myself out this kind of stuff by letting my passport expire. Sorry, no passport.

Never been on one, but agree with the selling points you mentioned.

Do you or your wife ever get sea sick? I'd hate to invest in going and then feel nauseated the whole trip. Hell, the food and booze is half the point.

We've been on one. Hated it. Felt like I was stuck in a mall for 4 days. Excursions were nice, but could do without sitting on the boat for hours on end. I think I'm just too hyper to cruise. I like to constantly be on the go. I'm not wired to just relax.

Cruises can be great. We’ve taken the kids on a Disney cruise and it was a blast. It’s worth the cost if you have kids. You get the Disney experience, minus the rides obviously, without having to plan every second of your vacation.

My wife gets seasick for a couple hours each time we set out. It goes away and she is fine the rest of the trip. I’ve never had an issue.

I think the ship is big enough to keep you occupied. I really like the days on sea because you can do everything or nothing.

How crowded was the Disney cruise? I have a four and six year old and the wifey and I are considering taking one within the next few years.

THat's kind of the way I felt. Like I was stuck in a big floating hotel. The good thing is most everything is paid for and you know the cost up front. If you like sitting at a small pool and being in a hotel with no car and no escape with 1,800 other people then, they are cool. The excursion was cool. Nassau was a shit hole pretty much outside of a few cool shops. Best way I can describe it is like going to Las Vegas but just being in a casino with tigher hallways and corridors and floating around the middle of the ocean for a few days. Or, maybe Pigeon Forge, TN or the ocean but warmer and floating.

Now that sounds pretty cool. Wouldn't mind doing that sometime.

I'd like to do one of the paddlewheelers down the Mississippi. But yeah that is a pricey trip.

been on one. won enough $$$ in the casino the first two nights combined that i played to damn near pay for the entire cruise. got drunk as shit the last night and lost all of it but $100.

guy from Charlotte, NC did the same. talked to him on the last day before getting off boat and he didn't know how he was getting home. he went back to casino and lost another $500. said his wife was super pissed and kids wouldn't speak to him.

Best $500 he ever spent.

No more than any other cruise. The kids club is great. You can drop the kids off and go off and do your own thing.

I’ve considered Disney cruises as well. Just hard to shell out that money. Would rather actually go to Disney lol.

I've cruised a lot. Just got off one from Seward to Vancouver through the inside passage. Fantastic scenery. I would recommend it.

My favorite cruise in this hemisphere is through the Panama Canal. Some great history there.

I'm very similar to you. Put me on the beach for five hours where I can walk, run, kayak, and swim, and I am good. Make me sit for more than an hour in a chair on the beach, and I am going crazy wanting to get up and do something. I was in the Dominican with an ex many years ago, and she told me I was miserable to be on vacation with. She wanted to sit on the beach all day and have drinks brought to her by the wait staff. I was able to do that for about 30 minutes before I kept asking if she wanted to jet-ski, paddle board, etc.

I've been on two cruises, both simply due to time constraints making it the easiest available get-away. I think the first one was three nights and the second one was five nights. I will never do another five nighter again. The three nighter was the perfect amount of time for me.

The only time I really spent on the ship was to sleep, get a morning workout, eat breakfast, and then have a late dinner/show. I was off the boat around 9 am each day and didn't get back on until about 6 pm each night. After sex and a shower, we wouldn't be ready for dinner until about 8 pm. Catch a show around 9 pm, and you're ready for bed.

I don't understand the complaints about the boats being too crowded, feeling stuck on it, etc. The majority of your waking hours should be spent off of the boat. The only time you should ever even see many other people is at breakfast or a show.

I enjoyed both cruises and wouldn't be opposed to taking another, but I prefer getting more time to explore a destination. When I think of the highlights of my travels, they tend to be things I found/heard about that were off the beaten path . . . things people don't see/learn/experience about a place just for being there for eight hours during the day. I'd rather have three to four days in one place followed by three to four days in another place rather than a repeated eight hours in each place day after day.

I have mentioned these cruises a couple of times on here. While in Grand Cayman, I kept bumping into a family from New Jersey. Dad was very wealthy- CEO of some sort of health/food company, bowling alleys in their house, etc.

His wife kept in touch with another of my exes for a while after the trip, and she insisted that we go on one of the private yacht cruises in the Caribbean. She gave us a link to some of the "companies" that offer these excursions. The crew consists of just two people - usually a husband/wife, best friends, father/son, etc. One is the captain while the other is the chef/server. They cater your trip to what you want. You can pick the number of days, what islands you want to go to, etc. If you want to stay an extra day at an island, no problem. If you want to skip an island and go elsewhere, no problem. If bad weather is hitting one island, it's easy for them to change course and take you elsewhere. If you want to drop anchor and just swim/use the floats all day, no problem. Sunbathe topless? No problem.

I haven't gone on one yet, but I believe they were around $5000 for a week. It's not a bad charge considering your party is the only one on the boat, all of your food is covered, and you get to decide whatever you want to do that day.

That family was skeptical when they went, because they had a high school son and high school daughter at the time. They thought their children would be bored to death, but they ended up loving it.

I just got back from a cruise in April. I did the ABC islands...Curaçao, Bonaire, Aruba...and we finished with St. Maarten. Had a blast. I’ve also done the Grand Turk, Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, and St. Thomas.

The one you’re going on...Cozumel, Costa Maya, Belize City, and Roatan was my first cruise. If you like excursions I recommend the trip to the Mayan site Lamanai...

https://www.tripadvisor.com/Attract...amanai_Tours-Belize_City_Belize_District.html

We took a bus for a ways and then took an hour long boat trip deep into the rainforest to get to the site. It was pretty cool if you like that kind of thing. Roatan Bay, Honduras had one of my favorite beaches. It was absolutely stunning. If I can find some pictures I’ll try to post them.

I’ve used Norwegian, Carnival, and Royal Caribbean. Each had their positives, but Royal Caribbean was a cut above the rest. I’ve never traveled Disney, but might when my grand kids get a little older.

Been on two cruises and liked them for most of the reasons listed above. Love being able to see several places during the trip. However, I prefer going to one location and spending a week there. My two favorites have been Anguilla and Grenada. Grenada especially is way off the beaten path but they are friendly enough toward Americans that I never felt nervous about getting out and exploring. If you want to kind of immerse yourself into a different culture, it's a good place to do it.

How the hell are you going to be off the boat in the middle of the ocean? Other than that you sound like me at the beach. 10 or 20 minutes sitting in the chair and I need to be doing something.

20+ cruises here. Love them. Just got off the Harmony of the Seas a few weeks ago. I order room service for breakfast and sit on the balcony with my coffee. Like others have said, I can just watch the ocean go by (and it’s relaxing at night before bed). There is usually plenty to do on board and the stops are just long enough for me.
