He is one of our own and fairly young, so I will try to take it easy on him. But Luke Creasy should be put on the first train out of town for writing this article, taught how to be a true journalist and not a fan-boy, then be allowed back.

In 55 games, the Herd scored five or more runs less than half the time (22) and was held to two or fewer runs 16 times, but only once during the last month of the season.

Can somebody get Luke a calculator? He claims that Marshall scored five or more runs 22 times. In reality, it was 23 times. He also claims that during the last month of the season (May), the Herd was held to two or fewer runs once. In reality, it was twice. Seriously, how do you get both of your claims wrong when all you have to do is count the number of games throughout the schedule?

More, the last month that he is using (May) only went until the 18th day of that month since the season stopped, so it was barely half of a month. Over the last 31 days of the season (a month of time), that number jumps from two to six. It's quite dishonest to try arguing what he did by using "the last month of the season" when it was barely half of a month. If the month ended on May 1st and Marshall won the game played on May 1st, would he also argue that Marshall showed great improvement by going undefeated "during the last month of the season"?

Beals said Marshall’s greatest need heading into the offseason is addressing the battery — pitchers and catchers — but as a whole, he’s seeking depth at all positions across the roster.

Hey, Lucas - how about asking Beals how he prioritizes the battery upgrades over hitting upgrades when his team just set an all-time Marshall low for team batting average?

This season, Marshall’s team batting average was .233, compared to a .273 clip for its opponents.

It was 293rd out of 295 teams. Put those numbers into perspective for your readers, Lucas.

In many ways, Beals’ second year at the helm in Huntington was a step forward. The Herd increased its win total by two games

A two win improvement that went from a terrible season to a god-awful season? That's not a step forward, Lucas. If you're going to use this argument, at least note an improvement in the SOS for the Herd to justify your claim.

Be a true journalist. You will get more respect by being honest and presenting things factually. If you piss off some people within Shewey, that is fine. Those who get pissed will be out of there soon enough. You will earn more respect being a legitimate journalist.

IDK Rifle,
Both hitting and pitching were gawd awful...

In the season finale, Coastal's HC decides to waste one of his 27 outs on a sacrifice bunt, a dumb move considering the control problems the Herd pitcher was having.
The pitcher managed to get a called strike and after a ball the hitter fouls off a bunt attempt, 1-2 is the count.
The Coastal batter STILL attempts the bunt...but walks on the next three pitches.
Two on, one out IIRC...
Next Coastal batter attempts to sacrifice, but gets HBP on a 2-0 count.
The last two games of the season it seemed like the Herd's pitchers were trying to win a game of dodgeball...10 Coastal batters hit by pitch in 2 games.

Marshall’s team ERA put them at about half of the 295 teams. Marshall’s team batting average put them 293rd out of 295 teams.

If Marshall’s batting average was good enough to be ranked as average as the team’s ERA, they would have won 10 more games.

Can anybody get rifle a job on the baseball staff? Maybe let him keep the scorebook in the end of the bench where he's used to sitting.

I like rifle, but he's not all the way back from the head injury in the Biden like bicycle crash. My fellow posters, for the time being, just view rifle's posts as the same way you would Sistersville or W-S.

. . . the head injury in the Biden like bicycle crash.

Mods, it's time to earn your paychecks:

I understand the world we’re currently living in is politically charged but HN and/or Old Fairfield are not the the places for that kind of discussion. Moving forward I’m going to delete posts and give automatic timeouts for offenders.

Mods, can you explain to rifle that my post was merely a comparison of current events, and in no way was political.
You made an analogy between my accident, which as you mentioned included brain damage, with Biden's bicycling accident which you said was similar. In doing so, you perpetuated the Republican myth that the president has brain issues.

I would never do this, because I respect McLaughlin's rule, but what you did would be similar to me mentioning how you cheated on your wife with the backup QB at Western Michigan when you lived in Kalamazoo and then saying it was similar to all of the times Trump cheated on his wife . . .

or mentioning how Middle Class Murox's mine tool company failed and pointing out that was similar to Trump's airline, water bottle company, board game, casinos, magazine, steak company, mortgage company, telecommunications company, tower, university, alcohol company, fragrance company, and mattress company failing . . .

or pointing out my comments about the military and acknowledging that Trump shares some of them since he called military members "suckers" and mocked POWs as "losers" . . .

or pointing out how Herdman thinks Covid was a hoax and pointing out how many lives were lost during all of those months that Trump claimed Covid would disappear overnight, disappear immediately after the election, claimed it was well handled in the U.S. and only impacted about four people . . .

or pointing out all of your racist comments on Pullman and comparing them to Trump having to pay seven-figure settlement for refusing to rent to blacks, for many people who were close to him on his team saying he used to frequently say the N-word, his reference to a black supporter at his rally as "my African-American," how he told four Congressional members of color to "go back where you came from," his consistent claim that the Central Park Five (all black) were still guilty even after being cleared, etc.

I think you should edit your post before you get suspended. Unlike Herdman, McLaughlin is a man of his word and actually has a sword to use as a moderator.

But I would never do those things on this board, because unlike you, I respect the rule.

were you wearing a helmet? I made a good ruling in this thread.

Reality is Marshall baseball has never really been that good.

Reality is that Marshall is hamstrung by being in a talentless state, both athletically and academically, so they can’t rely on homegrown kids to stay home and help the program.

Since the home state of Marshall is full of academic deficiencies, it means less career earnings by its citizens, thus less of a tax base. A talentless state and small tax base means little money for recruiting, so it’s tough to get talented kids.

Frankly, it all falls back on the West Virginian natives. The only ones worse are the natives who mooch off of Marshall (and its tax payers for their education) and then don’t contribute to the tax base by moving out of state.

I fail to see where Michigan referred to any "brain damage." He only said "head injury." And that could be as little as a contusion. But it should be noted that rifle's accident has clearly set him back a few steps.

He has treated you like the bitch that you are, yet you keep coming back trying to receive a facial from him:

All that would be right if Marshall didn’t spend more on athletics than many other more successful teams in its conference. It would be correct is Marshall didn’t produce more ticket revenue and higher donation levels than many of its conference mates.
