Miss leadership like this.

Active-duty soldiers are barred by federal statute — the post-Reconstruction-era Posse Comitatus Act — from acting as law enforcement on U.S. soil.

That doesn't mean they can't go to the border and do other things. if there is a large riot they certainly can stop a riot, for example. They could certainly use what force they are given authority to and that could me anything form lethal to detaining people. Lookup LA riots, if I remember correctly 7th Infantry Division. There is history and precedent of that. Thank you for being a broken record on a Monday morning.

82nd Airborne Paratroopers during Hurricane Katrina. From the US Army history site

Soldiers from the 82nd Airborne evacuated the Super Dome and the Convention Center, where thousands of citizens had fled for refuge when they were flooded out of their houses. The paratroopers also joined National Guard units patrolling the streets to keep order in the city.

George HW Bush got tired of ****ing around in LA. He took control and command the National Guard and sent in Marines and Army Infantry.

About 4,000 U.S. soldiers and Marines, some equipped with armored personnel carriers, gathered in staging areas in Southern California last night in preparation for deployment into riot-torn Los Angeles.

President Bush said in a televised national address at 9 p.m. that he had mobilized the troops -- three Marine infantry battalions from Camp Pendleton, Calif., and an Army light infantry task force from Fort Ord, Calif. -- at the request of California Gov. Pete Wilson (R) and Los Angeles Mayor Tom Bradley (D). Wilson already has deployed more than 4,500 troops from the California Army National Guard to the streets of Los Angeles, plus another 1,500 in reserve.

Bush said last night he was placing the California Guard under federal control, a step that Defense Department officials said was aimed at consolidating all military forces in the area under one command. Army officials in Washington and Fort Ord said last night that it was not clear when the active-duty Army soldiers -- many of whom were still arriving at the staging areas -- would deploy into the city alongside the Guard.

A senior administration offical said at the White House last night that the troops would be operating under rules of engagement that allow them to return fire if fired upon.

I was younger when this happened. I remembered the dumbasses (Nat'l Guard) tied up the 105 and 405 freeways to the point where you go nowhere.
