Here they are holding the big black and now bronzed penis .
Post modernist art. No beauty. No faces so you can take away all human aspect. Modern art is pretty much trash.
I have only seen one angle where this thing looks half way decent. IT's so awful.
It only looks terrible from every angle except one. From which it merely looks bad.

If this work was just a modern sculpture, it would be decent. The problem is that it is supposedly representational of an event in the life of MLK. In that aspect, it is a failure.
What I don’t get is, it’s 2023. You can cgi this shit up and see what it’s going to look like from every angle before you cast it. You can see that at best it looks like a dude holding a giant turd.
Are there any good sculptures of MLK? I’m not a fan of the one in DC (they could have done better) - and even that one drew a ton of criticism when it was unveiled.
There are a few just normal bronze ones around. Atlanta has a couple.
My favorite is probably the words carved into the steps of the Lincoln Memorial. The man like all was flawed and I think we get a little worshipy at times (and that’s not at all limited to MLK,) but the words transcend that.
The one in dc looks like some chairman mao statue or something you’d see in North Korea

The piece has checked one of the boxes for outstanding art. It has raised intellectual discussion. If the work would have been a simple representation of two people hugging, we would have already forgotten about it.
