Contrasting the long gone, or the current, football coach to the basketball coach by the same standard is apples to oranges. Like it or not, think it should be different or not, think some, many, or most of those in it are kidding themselves, CUSA 3.0 was built to be a football conference. The teams had nothing in common but a desire to play football at a particular level. All of their other sports were dragged along for the ride, all at vastly different levels. In men's basketball, that meant that about a third had no ability to field a legitimate team. No fans, no resources, no one cares. token effort. Another third chooses to make a token effort. Leaving the rest to settle the matter among themselves.
So, over the years, MU football wins and loses, More wins than losses. But, so full of hate, rage, and super-fan delusion, turned inward and rotten, NOTHING that happens is celebrated, appreciated, or held up. Even though all of the team are there for the specific reason of playing football, beating a peer is NBD. But, MU basketball. playing teams that can not compete, should never win, and which don't care if they do or not, wins over these token efforts are held up as if legitimate.
In the post-Memphis era, CUSA basketball was there to be controlled. Box of cupcakes.
And we are dead last.
And, before the football fixates jump on this, the SBC is the same thing. Built for football. A one-bid basketball league, with many token effort programs. Averages a 14 seed. There to be controlled. And, in a few years, the newness of the football league change will wear off, and the same unfair things that were said about our peers in CUSA will start to be said about our peers in the SBC.
