This team is pretty good considering what the "experts" said about it

1. The experts said we should finish 9th in C-USA this season

2. The experts said we only have 2 D-1 players. No way could a walk on from Ohio and 3 WV kids compete

3. The experts said the coach was a "bad hire"

4. The experts said Marshall couldn't be good at both football and basketball.

Hello those messages weren't recovered from a message board. These are the remarks from several sports writers and yes a few folks on some message boards.

It's funny to me it's such an amazing Hoosiers
type story and the only guy to see.it is pinko.commie eerbilly vingle. He's so intrigued he's written 2 articles about it....honestly I myself am dreaming this team makes it into the dance.

Simply a great wonderful story of what old school team hoops can accomplish.

Message boards are to be taken literally and as the final word on all subjects.
From some I have talked with, if the AAC were to expand by 2 teams today, ODU and Charlotte would be the most likely choices. They bring growing programs in growing areas with fertile recruiting areas.

That is interesting. The AAC is stronger than CUSA (per the pundits) and will remain so by taking two of it's weaker members.

All you need to know about Charlotte and Old Dominion's "upside" you found out last week, when ODU's president admitted that their new stadium was going to max out at less than 25,000 seats. Its smart, not building seats you don't have asses for, but it reveals the reality t

Nobody wants ODU and Charlotte. We took them because the pool got so shallow that upstart programs were more attractive than the rotten bones of the Sun Belt. There isn't a conference in America that could increase their TV package by $1.00 by adding either of those teams.

Whatever. I got this info from someone that is VERY much in the know.

Don't doubt that Meisters source knows his stuff. But I wonder when the MAC took Marshall if they would rather have had Temple? And which choice got them the most good pub? Philadelphia or Huntington? Don't think the big TV market is always the right choice. But money talks....even if it gets boring sometimes.

I was told it was mainly due to growing areas and recruiting areas.

So they would rather take a couple teams that don't win anything over a team with way more history and success? Makes sense. I hate what college athletics is becoming. How does that help with the perception of the league if the teams you take don't win anything? I don't get it.

So if MU is always going to be left out of everything because of where we are then one day it will be pointless to have a program due to the dying nature of WV and the area? When does a conference choose a team solely on the wins they produce and the championships they win? That should be one of the main reasons to choose a team. Would be different if we were just recently winning but we have history of winning and have been a winning program for some time now. Just makes sense that a program would want that success over the size of an area. What good has Tulane brought them? Imagine if we had been in there with our teams we have had the last few years. Would have given them a lot more notoriety than a program like Tulane.

I love Marshall, but I wonder how much more money can be poured into athletics. Sports at most schools have become the tail that wages the dog. To hell with that new English instructor we need, the rowing team needs a new paddle display complex first.

Personally, I would like to see the present conference / mega money system implode and college sports go back to the weekend diversion they once were. Yes, I know. It will never happen.
