Purdue opener next year sold out?!?`

There is no reason for you to be on the main board. Why do you continue to post here?

I also bought a "proxy" ticket to Boca and will be at the Purdue game.

Yeah, we've argued plenty about what the better bowl was, but screw the "not a real fan" bulls***. It's acceptable to voice a negative opinion and still be an awesome fan.

Sept 5th I predict....

A Marshall sellout v Purdue if the weather is good and we dont sellout to ESPN and play at noon. But we may lose...1st year QBs are always a huge question mark.

A half sold out stadium for WVU and a 2 point win over Georgia Southern created by some creative officiating in the final 3 minutes of the game, with a bewildered fan base exiting the stadium.

This is what The Greenhouse Effect predicts....

First, by contract, ESPN has no access to the game. Hopefully it will be on FoxSports1 and whether it is at NOON or at Midnight, it should be our goal to sell out the game and market the crap out of it!!! Let's make it a priority and every fan do their part to encourage the Marshall Admin to make it a priority as well.

The reality is....

Purdue is a P5 team, but they are a bad P5 team with zero football tradition. Their HOME attendance this year was just over 30k. There is no way in the world they are going to sell out their section. It is not going to happen and thus the game will not be a sellout.

And to answer the Kansas State argument, Kansas State is a football crazy school with huge fan base and a history of winning. That is why they brought so many fans to Huntington despite coming off a bad year (one of their few bad years in recent memory).

Purdue has been awful forever and show no signs of changing that culture any time soon.

Some things to consider, things I think actually help our attendance for this game.

First of all, it is the season/home opener. We always have big crowds for the season opener regardless of opponent.

We are playing a P5 at home, once again, rarely happens.

We are coming off of a great season, and are expected to be good again next year.

WVU is back to normal and they open with Ga Southern.

We are the much more appealing game to the casual football fan in the state of WV.

Really?

There are no casual football fans in WVU. Just the 1.8 million who root for the WVU and the handful of people in Huntington who don't.

Someone's mobile home was just upgraded to 56k! Back away from the keyboard a few minutes, Jr.

I thought WVs population had dwindled to 1.6 Million? I dunno?

This poster has a point. There are many Walmart based eerbilly fans that for NO reason at all have ever rooted for or wore Marshall gear. They've never been on either campus and have no idea why college even exists except for football.

Poster can you explain the reasoning behind your Walmart based Eerbilly Nation apathy and negative Marshall rhetoric?

First off, before YOU post please send us pic of your front teeth and also the outside of your double wide. Meth pipe posters will NOT be allowed on HN! Excessive teeth erosion will cause you to be banned here!

Good luck and good riddens, eerbilly! (pun intended even though you'll never get it)

What's is that neelin feelin? Would that be 3rd and draw, choke in a big game and lose consecutive bowl games for the record? And why are you two trolling? Are you still using us for your measuring stick I suppose?

At the last census update, West Virginia's population was around 1.88 million.

This said even if we have a beautiful day/evening game on September 5 it will not sell out. JMO
We price things like we think we are bigger and more in demand than what we are.

For many history starts the day they were born.

Purdue has a very good football history going back decades

Until about 20 years ago K-State had the worst W-L record in major college history. They have obviously turned that around.

In the last six years, Purdue has lost six times to five G5 teams: Toledo, Rice, Cincinnati, Central Michigan, and NIU (twice). They've gone 4-20 in the last two years, including 1-15 in Big 10.

Marshall gains no credibility winning this game, Purdue will bring almost no fans, and nobody local who wouldn't go to a Herd season opener anyway is going to come, much less with ticket prices marked up to $50 or more.

Purdue is going through a down cycle right now but their football history dwarfs Marshall's. The Purdue Boilermakers have been called the Cradle of Quarterbacks. Maybe even some of you young whipped snappers may have heard of these Purdue greats who also played in the NFL.

Len Dawson 54-56
Bob Griese 64-66
Mike Phipps 67-69
Gary Danielson 70-72
Mark Hermann 77-80
Jim Everett 81-85
Drew Brees 97-2000

I think Marshall will be favored and will win this game but you disrespect the game by not understanding and/or appreciating the rich history of college football around the country. Purdue has been to 16 bowl games including two Rose Bowls.

Be glad they are in a down cycle right now or it is unlikely Marshall could have attracted an opponent with this pedigree, IMO. The Big 10 is coming to the Joan people!

People don't go to a game because of the "history of a program" unless that is recent history. If people don't show up for the VA Tech game they aren't going to show up for the Purdue game unless we do something drastic. If people took "history" into account when we played them then we would have packed the house every time we played SMU.

the game falls under cusa's tv contract, so basically, an incredible long shot.

The Big 10 would rather show puppy bowl highlights than carry one of their basketball schools possibly getting thumped by a C-USA team.

This thread is about whether or not Marshall will sellout its opener against Purdue and yet for some reason WVU is mentioned 7 times.

Two of those were reference to attendance statistics so that's completely understandable, but the other 5 were about as helpful as a blind deaf man giving direction and had nothing to do with the actual topic.

Some of you have a serious "size envy" when it comes to WVU and other matters as well.

And by the way, I live in South Point and Marshall couldn't even sellout its conference championship game so a game against a Big10 bottom feeder isn't gonna change that.

Good luck with that

Purdue vs UDSC ( University of Detroit Southern Campus )

Fans still turn out for a game against Penn State because of their history.

The fans should come out and make this game a sell out because if everyone is going to complain that we don't play P5 schools then everybody needs to put their money where their mouth is when the opportunity is given. This is an opportunity for Marshall to defeat a Big 10 school. That is important, no matter the Big 10 school.

Marshall will never sell out a game unless it is against WVU. The ticket prices and cons cession prices are too high for the market region. Period.

What was wvu's conference title game numbers??

Oh wait...they've never had one.

Wow...2 conferences and possibly 2 outright conference titles and you couldnt even get a title game....hahaha that sucks!

Big 12; Texas, Texas Tech, OU, OSU, ISU, KU, KSU, TCU, BU

Vs.

Big 12 JV; wvu

Marshall obsessed trolling eerbillys! Chill out please!

You bought Ollie's rhetoric, your coach is a drunken perv, the other just a drunk! Your fans riot after a Rutgers win! You'll never get into the ACC or any other confernce! Ollie is gone. He hightailed it out of moedump before the house of cards collapses, like ever other endeavor he's taken on. Go wash out your panties please!!!! Chill OUT! and get off our board !!!!

Now back to the issue, Marshall will sellout Purdue. Why?

CUSA champions. A Bowl champion. A team that's won 19'of it's last 20. A coach that is a community pillar. A BIG 10 opponent that's not wearing panties like you eerbillys, they WILL play Marshall at Marshall.

Finally why will it sell out? We are wondering who is the next Sugarman. Our entire offseason will be a plethora of questions about who is Marshall's next Sugarman. Marshall is QB U!

Men play football, sissies throw names and run away.

Oh I hear that SHOUT works great on your liner stains! A helpful share for my eersiissy instate non rivals.

short answer is NO

I just hope we DON'T sell out and move this to a noon game for FOX sports. 3:30 even may be too early that early in the September.

A 5pm or 6 or 7pm start would be optimal for crowd turnout.

Actually this game should be a prime game to watch as most P5 schools are in full home opener dodge mode, playing Ga Southern or a Towson State.

New QB, and a 13-1 team should be an easy sell to the informed college football fan.

If the Purdue game is picked up by either Fox Sports 1 or 2, any kickoff time is good. Can't complain about being on national tv.

If the game is picked up by either Fox Sports 1 or 2 for a national telecast, then any time for kick off is good.

I don't think you understand that the TV contracts allow the networks to choose the games they want I'm a specific manner. Then the game is put in a time slot based on what games they have for that day. At best we will be a 3:30 start on FSN, any other channel and we will be kicking off at noon. It's just the way it is. More people will watch the game on tv than will be in he stands so that is who is most important to the tv networks.

Wow MU42 you sure seem confident FOX will put us on early and that will won't get a slot later than 330. Do you work for them personally?

Is a Top 25 Marshall team worthy of a 6pm start on FOX when every other P5 team is in dodge mode? I dunno meself.

However, if you work for FOX could you please tell them to improve their college game day show. Its flat out terrible compared to...

Let's wait and see.

Anything is negotiable .
