Not too many years ago...Marshall won multible MAC Football Championships and were usually rewarded with a Bowl Game in cold Detroit during late December. Several fond memories...Randy Moss stripped of the football as he raced to the endzone in the closing minutes to HOPEFULLY defeat (SEC) Mississippi....Sending BYU followers (dressed in their mink coats and high heels) back West and defeating Louisville & Cincinnati in the Pontiac Silverdome.....the gun--fight VICTORY in the GMAC Bowl (Mobile, Ala) against East Carolina.
Western Michigan, along with the other MAC schools began to "take notice of the little school along the banks of the Ohio"...and invested in their football future by upgrading facilities and expanding their recruiting bases south to Georgia & Florida.
Look at where we (Marshall) are after a horrible 2016 season and look where undefeated MAC Champion===Western Michigan is---- Bowling in the Dallas COTTON BOWL on New Year's Day, while our team's players & coaches will be sitting at their homes eating TURKEY & CROW.
How did this happen in ONE YEAR? I have no answer...but I believe it begins at the top...with our current AD and the football department. NO Blame can be placed on our LOYAL fans...we don't tackle, run or catch the ball. Our former players (undefeated 1996 team is shown no RESPECT during the FAU game by being told by Security "Get off the field---our AD will not permit you guys to support the TEAM by being on the sidelines."
All we (fans) are expected to do is anti up 110 % more $$$$$. Nothing More--Nothing Less...
