So the great negotiator-in-chief...

Trump sent a "tweet" out the day after the Carrier deal specifically citing "AC units" among other things that would be taxed at 35% when imported...

i'm not sure why you Libs think the Carrier deal saving 800+ jobs took the tariff off the table...

If you think using taxpayer money to buy a company's allegiance is the same thing as making that company pay tariffs, it's you that needs help.

Extra, you are trying to attach two separate issues. The first is a carrot, the second is a stick. In the Carrier deal a carrot was offered if they stayed. The tax credit for capital investment is a wise business move by the state of Indiana. If Carrier had decided to move anyway, they would have faced Trump's proposed tariffs on imported goods. So the decision was for Carrier, would you rather have a reasonable carrot or get hit with an onerous stick?

As you continue to root against Trump you are going to become extremely upset. There are already many things breaking on the side that shows his plans are going to be successful in not only keeping jobs here, but also in repatriating jobs that had moved overseas. This is why I have wanted a businessman in the White House. Politicians can't negotiate with business owners, they speak a different language. Trump understands the motivations and priority of issues to business owners.

The "carrot" is yet another taxpayer subsidy for an already wealthy corporation. He should have told carrier to go ahead and move. The tariff you will pay on your first 3500 large units will cost you 7 million and we will use that money to train the employees you lay off to build air conditioners here in Indiana for less.

Your business man will upset everyone in the working class with his incompetence.

Are you suggesting the government open up a plant and build air conditioners? Because, if you're not, you are missing a small issue. You need a company to hire those trained workers (actually, why would you need to train people when there would be 1,000 experienced ones just sitting around unemployed). Next issue, that new company would need a facility, equipment, etc. requiring a huge capital investment (because I guarantee you that Carrier is not going to sell their plant to a new competitor). So how would a state induce someone to start up an air conditioning manufacturing firm that would require tens of millions in cap ex to get started? Oh, I know, they would offer them tax credits for the investment.

Stick to building one off custom cabinets in the barn behind your house.
