You’re right I haven’t been to a game yet. But I’m SICK of always hearing about how young we are or how DD is building or how next year is our year. We never do crap in basketball and we’ve already lost to Morehead.. AGAIN
Pullman - I wouldn’t call last year’s BB season “crap”. Have a little faith. DD is the best coach/ambassador/leader of our hardwood team in many a year. Go Herd!
We are playing alot of freshman right now and tbh West is getting better each game our center peneva looks a hell of alot better now then he was last year and 100percent better then two years ago. we are still thin and a little weak to bang the boards but over all I like what I'm seeing.

I know we are all upset with the football situation. However, I feel pretty good about our BBall program. I think Dan is a very good coach. He seems to have a very good IQ for the game and willing to change when necessary. Here is just a reminder:

Oh ok I feel much better. Losing 80% of the time to Morehead F***ing state is definitely where I want this program to be.

Playing three and four freshmen at a time. Defensive help (Rondale) coming second semester. Two big studs coming on court next year with Peneva, CJ and Elmore back.
They are fun to watch right now, much less dreaming about the future. I can see it coming. We will be the unsung surprise of college basketball next year.

WOW... I didn't know that. They are REALLY impressive. I mean, I definitely want our aspirations to be that we beat a team that beat Old Dominion.
Anyone can have a non conference home winning streak. All they have to do is schedule Concord
Morehead State is 1-5. Lost to, among others, Lipscomb, a 4-2 religious college of less than 4K students in the one bid A-Sun; 2-2 IUPUI, a commuter college in Indy from the one-bid Horizon, whose only other win is over an NAIA school; and 4-3 Central Arkansas, from the one-bid Southland, which was DII 10 years ago and has not had a winning season in years.
Morehead State is not a "decent team".
Basketball will bounce about to a .500 or so record, only because some of the football centric schools in CUSA make near zero effort at other sports, and we will have a nice argument about should we pay to play in one of these stupid post season tournaments, and then everybody can talk about "next year".

Not as much as possible....how about just a smidge? Not a Hero, but not a fan of smarta$$'s (n)either! So, here are some facts. From Jeff S. - Marshall: Ranking comes in @ #194. SoS (ouch) 330. Bill & his sister rank: #214. Sos 190. CBS Sports has them as a 2 pt fav @ home. Would it make sense, given those "facts" that W&M should be favored? Not sure what the home court advantage is in terms of betting, but it sounds about right.

They just beat ODU and the game is at their place. They are actually a pretty good team and we have a new one.
You guys dog DD so much.. I hear guy that sits behind us at the game who I think shows up specifically to bash D'Antoni and the first time I heard it I thought it was chuck landon.. also he knew nothing "technical" about the game of basketball and was whining about us shooting 3's.. hopefully he'll show up to more games and learn basketball talk..
I would say Marshall has more than a slugger's chance if they can make a decent amount of 3s vs Bill and Mary. I don't care who the opponent is or what the spot is.
As I’ve been saying- we play glorified street ball- fast pace with no defense. It’s showing again tonight. I’m sure the same guy will come on and saying nothing we do resembles that but as is apparent tonight, that’s EXACTLY what we do

They looked like an NBA all star team because no one was guarding them. So how can you really tell.
They lost to High Point from the kidding itself by being in Div I Big South (soon to be the home of the Harvey High Golden Eagles, BTW) and hapless UCF.
I think the theme of the year is coming clear. We get blown away by X team, somebody say "but, hey, they are pretty good" even though they aren't.

And I don't care about these 'pretty good teams'. If we made the tournament EVER, I would be ok with losing to W&M and giving up 114 points. But have never, and will never do crap in basketball. You know how to win- pay someone to come. There are coaches out there who would come for the right price, even if it meant a lateral move, if it was double the salary. I have a friend that is a huge donor at WVU and one thing he is always saying is as much money as the coaches get paid, would it really kill the program to put an extra 200K towards the special teams coach to bring in a high profile special teams guy? What is 200K more in the grade scheme of things to probablt win 1-2 games a year more being that WVU's special teams are so bad it costs them 1-2 games a year.
So I say the same for our bball program- It's not like we need to pay someone 5mil a year. How about finding someone who actually coaches offense AND defense and pay them an extra 500K than DD makes? Perhaps incentivise the package based on success. CUSA record, making CUSA finals, winning CUSA, etc... DD has ZERO reason to feel threatened and therefore can just let these guys run up and down the floor without playing doing anything defensively.

Bill & Mary has NOT loss to a non-conference opponent at home in about 3 years! They are big, quick & strong.... and shoot the 3-ball very well. The HERD lost 114---104. Bill & Mary shot 64.3 % (18--28) behind the three point line. Marshall was 12-27 (44.4%) and missed only 1 free throw (18-19). The other stats were almost even. 18 three pointers is quite amazing for any team.
Dan was not a happy camper after the game when interviewed by Steve Cotton. He was disappointed after a TO..."the team ran in all directions and did not do what they were instructed to do." "They did not defend well down the stretch (hands at their sides and not in a player's face)..... after gaining an 8-pt lead in the second half. He added....."this team has not learned to win a game down the stretch." Closing, he admitted "they are young & will get better---but that [young] is no excuse."
"Time to grow up & do as you have been coached in practice...and during TOs."..........Dan said.
I bet it was a long, quiet bus ride (8 hrs) from Williamsburgh to Huntington!

By the way- we haven't played defense for years, so yes- young is no excuse because that is also not the reason.

You're right.. one of them is a true winner, has won conference USA (a weak conference), plays defense and is definitely building a winning tradition (losing to Morehead state annually) and the other is Herion... my nad
Bridgewater (Division III), Presbyterian, Liberty, Milligan (NAIA), Savannah State, Washington Adventist (NAIA), Hampton, ODU, Mary Washington (Division III), High Point, Central Michigan, Howard, Bluefield (NAIA), Western Illinois, Wofford, Washington College (Division III), Liberty again, VMI, Goucher (Division III), ODU again. Really? When the best win in a three year streak of non-conference home wins is either ODU or Marshall, it is a non event.
But you do answer Pullman's question. The bus ride. This is the issue This is why no coach worth a d*** is going to come here, no matter how much we pay him. And why any coach who does anything will get out ASAP. You cannot recruit here. This league is spread out over THREE time zones. Any kid good enough to play in CUSA is good enough to play in the MAC, or the CAA, or what not. If he is smart, and actualy trying to get an education, why put yourself through 8 hour bus trips and 4 hour plane rides, when you can be in a league with a footprint of a couple of states? So we get the West Virginia HS all-stars and some no other choice eastern Europeans.

He knows basketball well. He was ticked after the game. Dan & his coaching staff expected to win. He was mad the team did not defend down the stretch. I have been to his practices....he stresses defense a lot more than some of you "arm chair" coaches know. Just watch Duke, UNC, Kentucky, Michigan State and other talented programs. They are racing up the floor and firing up 3-pointers from all angles. That is today's basketball! The difference is those elite teams have the best players in the nation "reloading" into their systems with great offensive players and BIG BANGERS defending the basket. Those players come to college already having a good idea of playing sound defense. The GLORY in basketball is scoring points (duh)......not defending and wanting to play good defense is difficult..... because of the offensive talents of today's players.The importance of the 3-ball makes it more difficult to defend....Marshall stats were to the point the same as the Tribe. The difference was Bill & Mary converted SIX more 3-pointers [18 verses 12]. Playing defense comes from the heart...some guys have it...most do not!
Pullman, I bet you have played or continue to play pick up basketball? What is more fun....SCORING or playing defense?
Dan was ticked off that his players did not defend after timeouts by having their hands at their sides & not having their hands in the shooter's faces. He and the coaches can only instruct.....it is up to the players to execute...."what they practice and have been taught" during the many hours prior to games.
Pullman, you need to purchase some tickets to Marshall basketball. I think you will be pleased what is being built by Dan & his staff.....and it will take more than 3-years to construct a winning program that has been in the dumpster for a long time.
