What is it about Marshall?

Football anhedonia. Our conference "sucks" and then the non-conference (from the lauded by football know nothings THE AMERICAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) "sucks" and blah, blah, blah.

Obviously MU sports, short of winning every game every year, something that only happens in pro wrestling and the movies, is nothing. so you need to move on. WWE would be perfect for you. The "good guy" always wins. Perfect for delusionals and little kids.
Just stop finishing 2nd or 3rd in our division. Win some championships. More than one a decade.

Not hard to figure out.

The question to take away from last night is... "Why doesnt our offense always look like that?"

We play boring vanilla football all year and underachieve, but then cut it loose for the bowl game and play our best game of the season.

Usually, the excuse is Doc is going vanilla, because he doesn't want to show our cards to our upcoming opponents. Problem is, he keeps this same strategy all season long.

There you have it and that is the truth.

That's the issue right there. We can show up in one game with 3 weeks to get ready. Week in and week out where conference coaches know you? Not so much.

That's why we are an underachieving program. We are the Texas Longhorns or CUSA East Division. We are the Mark Richt ear Georgia Bulldogs Team of CUSA.
A 9 win season is something to celebrate considering a new OC, DC, and QB's were broke in this season. When programs start complaining about 9 wins season there is an issue

Every year, it's a list of excuses as to why we lose to terrible teams, and still have 1 conference title after a decade. Since CUSA 2.0, we have competed in bottom 2 rated conferences in Div I.

When fans continue making excuses, that's a problem.

We've established Doc does extremely well in bowl games and deserves recognition for that. It's his regular season performance (with most wins coming from beating only teams that finish with losing records) that is one of several concerns.

I have two buddies who coach there. They haven't heard many rumblings yet, but if they come out slow next year, it could get really hot fast.

I think Strong, along with Taggart, is one of the most overrated coaches in college. He was average for two years at Louisville until he was able to ride on the shoulders of a freak QB. At Texas, he was very bad considering what they had. He had a great first year at USF, but again, that was when he had a do-everything QB that could help hide all of their deficiencies. Unless he finds another one of those, I expect the same record out of him.

Well, yeah, C-USA sucked this year. It was the worst conference in the country. Hell, an FCS conference was better.

And The American doesn't suck. It is an average FBS conference. USF? It was the 8th best team in an average conference. That doesn't make for a good team, but rather, an average team.

I think the most telling point in your post and predictor of success is that Strong rode Bridgewater for success and I agree. Same could be said for Doc and Cato, Brohm and Doughty, Stockstill and Stockstill. Without the QB’s mentioned, I highly doubt any of those coaches have close to the success they had.

If you don’t have a very good QB, chances of a highly successful season are diminished greatly. Jmo
