Is the worst. WVU at 9 and 12 with Oklahoma up next or Marshall at 12 and 9 with UTEP up next. Neither team really reaching preseason expectations. Mountaineers own a win over Kansas and Marshall lost to Maryland, Texas A&M, Virginia, and Southern Miss hung 50 on us.
Go for it.

Speaking of the former did anyone else see Bob Huggins get tossed last night. It was vintage Huggs as he made a complete ass of himself.
His team was merely going thru the motions all night and when his shooter didn’t get a call on a three ball he lost his ish.
Personally I like BH, in social settings he is a really nice guy. But last night was an embarrassment, he is to old and just plain to fat to be wrestling with his ass’t coaches who were trying to keep him from doing something REALLY stupid.

Should the Herd win the 2 games this week, we will have the same record as last year at the same time.
Don't get hung up on 1 game with weary legs

exactly....and the two games before that we really booted. conference record could very easily be really good....but instead it's just decent to good.

Good teams don’t get beat by 50 EVER

Exactly. If you're team loses by 50 it means one of two things.

1. They aren't very good.
2. They barely gave an effort.

I lean toward #2.

Marshall winning tonight tells me nothing. I fully expect us to win tonight and on Saturday. This team shows up at home(8-1), but we do not show up to play on the road(4-8).

Sure the 3 game road swing had something to do with it, but not enough to result in a 50 point loss.

We choked away WKU which led to a lethargic start at LaTech. They fought to get back in it, only to lose by 9. Then went into USM with absolutely zero effort. They were sulking after two straight losses. I'd buy more into the "they're tired" excuse if our PG wasn't winking at the announcers table while getting our heads beat in by a team that is in the bottom half of the league. I don't even know how serious you can take USM's overall record when they've played teams like Rust(WHO???), Millsaps(Huh???), William Carey(NAIA) who they lost to, and Southern Baptist College.

We had a chance to take control of the league with these last three games and threw it away.

D'Antoni's system gets beat by 50. The whole thing is run on shooting accuracy and rhythm, and if someone gets you out of rhythm, the system demands you shoot your way out of it and you can wind up digging a huge hole. Sometimes you dig your way to China.

The other side of it, however, is if you get into a rhythm, you can shoot yourself into games you have no chance of winning. Look at how we did against WKU last year during the regular season, versus when we played them in the conference tournament - a team that demolished us twice, losing to us because John Elmore is hitting threes two steps in from mid-court.

I think we just aren't very good right now. Maybe we can get hot, but we better hurry.

Lost interest to be honest and DAnny has got to go bigger inside. This is not a very good team right now is correct and they look so out of synch is an understatement.
Golden State and Houston run this system with big men why can’t Danny?

I thought after the last few years of being wrong Bleeds had quit discussing basketball. guess not.

Oh I guess it's wrong to believe good teams have no excuse to lose by 50. Not one thing I posted above is wrong. Unless of course you're just an apologist.

I didn't say we were a bad team. I said the effort wasn't there at USM. Go back and read my post again.

It's pretty established that we have a good/talented team.

That is what has some of us frustrated. We're underachieving. A lot of our fans, my self included, thought this could be a year so good that we could grab an at-large bid if we didn't win the conference again. Even after our OoC results this year I thought we'd have almost no issue winning the regular season title and at worst be a #2 seed in the conference tournament.

I think you answered your own question...

Can we please stop with the whiny excuses that our schedule is so much tougher than anyone else? Every team goes through it and gets tired legs. The excuses are ridiculous. Suck it up and take the beating, and hopefully learn from it. If we don't that's squarely on us.

I agree. Several teams have a stretch of away games and manage them.

I would actually be in more agreement of arguing the schedule was tough during this time, had MU not looked so bad.
Funny how everyone mentions Elmore and the players but ignore Dan allowing MU to squander a lead against WKU, start slow at LT where desperation paid off until the end, and simply made no adjustments, if he even coached at all, against USM.

I'm frustrated too, but you have to understand what a big loss Peneva was to our offense and defense. Additionally, at this time last year DD was thinking we'd have Peneva, Cook and IB this year and we don't have any of them at the moment.

excuses? I saw one guy attribute the horrible lop sided loss to weary legs. Even you seem to acknowledge teams get tired legs and you don't seem too dense to realize 5 games in 9 days, with 3 straight road game over 6 days is hard on a team. At the risk of you calling it an excuse, most teams don't schedule that way....just so you know.

Thats on Dan. Should have had an idea that your best player might be leaving at any time...you have someone ready to step up. You also scenario in your head, if different players are out for injury, what you'll do and how your offense and defense will change. He should have been doing that anyway regarding fouls in a game. Shows that maybe this system is too reliant on something that MU simply can't consistently produce.

24 hours in a day...MU probably spends 5 of them actually playing basketball. Combine the amount of playing time actually done and sitting on the bench for a break, the team doesn't actually play that much.
So what else are they doing for those 19 or so hours? Traveling? Classwork? Studying? NOT PLAYING BASKETBALL?!?
Not to mentions several of these guys play pickup games daily in the offseason and train much more extensively than they do in the regular season.

The schedule factor is BS...USM was a tune up game if anything gicen the talent we have. LT and WKU are tough but both were not impossible to win.

I may be wrong, but I don't think anyone had the slightest idea that Peneva was contemplating leaving the team after last year. I think he hand his parents let the post season run get to their head. Once again could be wrong, but I think that was even more blindsided to Dan than Litton leaving was to Doc.

That was EXACTLY the case. Jannson was his BFF last year and he didnt even have a clue. Ajdin never said a word to him. Adjin didnt tell the staff until AFTER he signed with an agent and even that was at the very last minute. From what we were told by Adjin, he and his family were shown falsified publications that inflated his draft projections. It was a bad situation for all.

Totally false. I’m not taking up for Dan because he owns the Southern Miss debacle, but the Penava departure shocked everybody. He didn’t even tell his best friend on the team.

The plan was for Penava to start and for IB to give us 8-10 minutes per game. You don’t lose arguably the best player on your team out of the blue with zero chance to replace him with high quality because of when it occurred in the recruiting season and not expect to have some drop off.

It’s still not an excuse to lose by 50 to a conference foe.

he had two behind Peneva, one flunked out and one is hurt. you do realize there are scholarship limits, correct?

You guys with your "Weary" legs kill me. These are 18-26 year old men. It takes a lot to get them to the point of having "Weary" Legs too tired to play. Whats going to happen if they make a deep run into the tournament where they have to go from city to city, play 2 games a weekend (Thurs or Fri), then have to make runs back to Campus to attend class? Think it's any easier?

Always have a plan. If it turned out IB wasn't what Dan had expected, he had/has time to adjust.

Everything about this team is not good but some just want to point to a player or a situation...because they could never go against one of their own, ever.

2018's defensive player of the year, the NCAA leader in blocks, and the physical build for next level play, was not anticipated by Dan at all? 2018 was a breakout season for him and being from Bosnia, with Dan's experience overseas, which would expand his possibilities, was not anticipated?
Litton leaving was more of a shocker to me, even so, Doc brought in someone to fill in.
If I were a coach, I'd be very weary of a breakout season for my player. Of course I'd try everything to get them to stay but also accept they could leave.

What experience overseas? He coached in Myrtle Beach for 30 years before joining brother mike in the nba.

See above post from @herdinatl

You may have start to wonder based on performance, but usually there are conversations had. None were had in this case. If his own best friend had no clue then no one did.

Basketball is also not football. You can't stockpile 3-4 players at each position.

I support what HE MEANT TO SAY.
.."with Dan's experience WITH overseas players....he had a foreign exchange student that shared a basement apartment with his sons at Socastee HS, Myrtle Beach.

I do not disagree with any of those facts and conversations were definitely had...HOWEVA....up until that day, he told the staff, Jannson as well as the rest of the team he was staying. We even took him, Jannson and one other player to dinner one night when we were out in San Diego and he looked me square in the eye and said he was coming back. One would think that a player would listen to a coach with NBA experience who also has a brother who is a current NBA coach both tell him he would benefit himself to come back for his senior season.

Shoulda, coulda, woulda. He admitted to us that he screwed up. We love the kid and wish him nothing but the best.

Peneva knew he got bad advice that’s why it was reported on here by certain posters that go to every practice that he was leaving to get bigger faster stronger. It wasn’t to play professionally

Bleeds we are 2-3 on the road in conference with one of those wins at ODU. We aren't great on the road, but our road record in the OOC was going to be much better than the 2-5 mark we put up with the road schedule we played. We hold serve at home and win 4 road games and we end up 13-5 in conference, which would be better than the preseason expectations. We have played the 3rd toughest schedule in the conference so far with our schedule ranked #92 at this point and have the 3rd best Strength of Record rating in the conference so we are that bad. This season could take a very positive turn if Elmore and Burks start playing like they did last year for the rest of the season. Both of them have struggled this year and it has lead to a few losses that would likely have been wins.

Doesn't matter who knew or didn't. I am sure Dan spoke with him about it and if he lied then he lied.
Basketball is not like football, you're right...you can call a timeout and literally change your entire scheme. Dan had the chance to do that and didn't or just sucked at it.
