Will & Harper

You deplorables should take 90 minutes and watch this documentary on Netflix. I am about 2/3 of the way through it. It follows Will Ferrell and his longtime friend Harper Steele. Steele was the head writer at Saturday Night Live for five years, so naturally, a pretty funny person.
Two years ago, at about 60 years old, Steele came out as having transitioned from a man to a woman. She has been married to a woman, had adult children, etc. None of her friends knew, and she sent them all an email telling them.
The documentary follows Will and Harper as they drive cross-country, as Steele had done many times before as a man, stopping in Middle America (country bars, dirt track races, The Big Texan Steak Ranch in Amarillo hoping to see @big_country90, etc.). Will is his usual humorous self and asks questions that many of us would, and you see some of the expected discrimination along with some surprises.
If done differently, I think the storyline could have been done to win awards, but the format went a very different, very casual way. It's worth watching for you deplorables.
