Marshall has had a number of baseball alums make it to the big leagues over the last decade. Currently, JD Hammer is a relief pitcher for the Philadelphia Phillies and has an ERA of 0.82 in 10 appearances this year. I talked to him for a few minutes last week in DC and then last night in Philadelphia, and he is becoming a bit of a fan favorite in Philly due to his hair and glasses.

Corey Bird was called up by the Marlins a couple of weeks ago which was supposed to be his first big league appearance. His mother and Coach Waggoner quickly arranged travel to watch what was supposed to be his first big league action as a starter against the Orioles. But hours before the game, he was sent back to the minors. Strangely, Bird's numbers have been really bad during his career in the minors, but he has been able to avoid getting released and has put up decent numbers this year. Let's hope he gets another chance this season to get to the bigs.

Our fans don't give enough attention to the baseball players in the minors and those who have made it to the big leagues. It's pretty damn cool to have this many guys who have made it recently.
