Nikolic out for eight weeks

HUNTINGTON — Aleksa Nikolic, a sophomore guard for the Marshall Thundering Herd men's basketball team, was injured Tuesday in a game at Morehead State.

Marshall sports information associate director Carly Weisenbach said Nikolic will be out of action for eight weeks and he has the possibility of getting a medical redshirt year.

The exact nature of Nikolic's injury was not reported. He was going for a steal and collided with one of the Eagles with about one minute left in the game.

Nikolic was knocked down and remained down getting medical attention to his face or head for several minutes.

Tough break for the kid, the basketball team, and Danny. Despite his shortcomings, you can't fault his efforts. He was busting his butt in the final minutes in a lost cause. A redshirt will hurt in the short term but could proove beneficial in a couple of years.

I feel so sorry for him. He and Milan are trying to make the most of their American opportunity. They both play hard. I still think Nikolic has strong potential.

My sympathy to the young man. The redshirt year could help him a lot. He has a ways to go.
