Tuesday morning, 3:20 am.

Random guy walks up to my car - the only one parked outside in our townhouse community - pulls something out of his jacket, bashes in my windshield, then walks away down the street. Didn't try breaking in, didn't try opening a door, simply bashed the window in and kept walking.

My garage only fits two cars, so I am usually the only one who parks in the open/public spots overnight, which is allowed, so maybe I was the only option for this guy:

I knew a guy from New Rochelle that when he was younger the guy that owned the local glass shop paid people (him and friends)to do that.

My friend opened a glass business about a year ago that I tried investing in. She sent her guys out to fix it, and I gave her shit for being the one who hired somebody to do it for the purpose you stated.

Better try to invest in new paint first. That wall and brick are hideous.

You really shouldn't make yourself such an easy target. I've seen your house, Stephens.

This was a neighbor's townhouse and camera system. The brick/wall are not his responsibility, as they are covered by the HOA. The townhouses go from anywhere between $700K - $1.1 million. I assure you, they are far, far nicer than the properties you were/are associated with in WV/CA/OH.

Christ, you have/had a sidewalk that stops in the middle of your fvcking yard. You have/had bars on your god damn windows.

That’s clearly Taz.

Tell you Weinstein,

You have/had bars on your god damn windows.

Not since I lived in East LA when I was a kid.

Have not lived in WV since college, Never lived in Ohio (although, Equifax thought I did. Then again they thought I lived in Washington state as well), My house now in LA is pushing into 7 digits, and taxes suck.

LA? That’s a bit of an exaggeration.

And about that sidewalk . . .

I’m not wearing my glasses - is that the famous Altima you took murox around in?

I’m pretty sure that it was a Maxima, not an Altima. And it’s a Camry, one of seven that I now own (I also technically own a hideous looking Tesla - which I realize is redundant - but it’s used by the CEO that we hired as part of his comp plan). The Camry is parked in public spots while the BMW and Bentley are in my garage.

I think I mentioned this, but I test drove a model Y. At that price point I thought the interior was kind of meh. But man that thing was fast. Like scary fast.

I’m sticking with the Odyssey/Pilot combo for now.

We have the SUV Tesla. And it's a pain in the ass. The wait to open the door to get in sucks. Then, if you're parked next to somebody, you have to move pretty far back for the door to lift, and then wait forever.

I find it awful looking. If it were a Hyundai, nobody would think it looked good. Since it's a Tesla, suddenly it's nice looking. The only halfway decent looking Tesla to me is the smaller sedan.

There are two Jazz players that come off of the bench. They played together in college, so they are good friends, and one of them is nicknamed "minivan." When they were talking about how the nickname came about, one made it a point to say "yeah, but I'm an Odyssey, so I'm not your regular run-of-the-mill minivan."

So even NBA players are hyping up your ride.

I love it. Especially for trips. Good for kid baseball games. I really have no commute though, if I had to drive more I’d want my little Mazda back.

But if you’d had told me I’d spend damn near 50k on a car one day I would have guessed a luxury vehicle.

Im going to drive it till the wheels fall off. It’s a 2017 with only 30k miles on it, so hopefully I get a lot more years out of it. Use the extra $ on nice vacations.

Aside - the gay nurse at work said he thought I was a hot dad until he saw me in the minivan. So I guess it kills my sex appeal. I’m ok with that.

I was at the Honda dealer this week and looked at a new Odyssey for shits and giggles. Damn things are nice.

I was there to trade in the Sportage. The Honda dealer had a lightly used 2018 Mazda3 Grand Touring hatch 6-mt, so I bought it. The market is nuts right now, they gave me more on trade than I paid last year.

I know you like Mazda, so you know how hard it is to find a Grand Touring hatch with a stick. I couldn't pass it up, I like my little zippy cars. It also has the package with the adaptive headlights, which are awesome.

I had a little Nissan Sentra I got in med school. It died at the end of residency. Bought a little auto Mazda 3 and other than no blue tooth it was great. Just a little zippy, great gas mileage, easy to park. We had a CX5 but traded it for the Pilot when we needed third row. I think the 3 is a lot better dollar for dollar vehicle.

I miss that thing. The odyssey is great buts it’s a boat.

They are a lot of car for the money, for sure. Hell, my is downright luxurious, two tone leather seats, armrest, and door inserts, every option, all the new safety gizmos and adaptive cruise (with a stick! that's rare).

We are a Mazda family. The wife has a 2019 CX-9 Touring and loves it.

Was in Cabo for a beach lunch with a billionaire and his son (chairman and vice chairman of their companies) a couple of weeks ago. One of their sort-of competitors in one of their industries is the guy who owns Carvana, who just became the wealthiest person in Arizona. His dad is a convicted felon and is the one who basically built the company and did the financing.

They were telling me of a twisted business model Carvana is running with the bank now backing them. As a result, they are paying significantly more money for trade-ins or outright buying used cars from people for well over book.

You can go to the Carvana site, enter your vehicle’s VIN and other info, and get your guaranteed (assuming you don’t lie) offer. They’re paying thousands more than your vehicle is worth.

I actually used a Carvana offer as a negotiating tool on my trade-in. I accepted an offer of ten bucks less than Carvana's offer. Of course, one must consider the sales tax advantage of trading in versus selling to Carvana, which is something a lot of people forget. I paid sales tax on $2k, which was the difference in trade in and the purchase prize of the Mazda.

But yes, Carvana is certainly a part of this increase in values. And yes, they are definitely making big money on the finance side.

I passed this clip off to my friends in forensics. Utilizing digital enhancement software, they said the perp appears to look at the license plate to confirm it was registered to one Arm, Rifle and that the perp then can be seen by the lip reading specialist saying, “Courtesy of feva, bitch”.

This week, I put down a deposit for a new vehicle that won’t be available for several months. I am playing with the idea of selling my vehicle outright rather than dealing with a trade in. Is Carvana a reputable company? The way you describe them makes me a little hesitant to use their services.

A lot of bad reviews on line.

Buying a car from them was easy. Used them 2 years ago. Would consider looking at them again. I didn't use them for a trade in or financing. Bought outright. I never had a problem

Is it reputable? Their market cap is tens of billions of dollars. I'm not sure what Jeff the Angry Drunk is talking about. They sell hundreds of thousands of cars each year, continue growing each year, and have more inventory than the next two biggest used car behemoths combined.

Agreed on how nice not only the 3 is, but really the entire product line for Mazda. They are positioning themselves to either set comfortably in between the traditional Honda, Toyota, etc, and their premium brand counterparts, Acura and Lexus.

I can't figure out of that's their business model or if they are trying to morph into their own premium line, sort of how they envisioned the Millennia line that failed. I will say that the 3 is not cheap if you want turbo and AWD. I was trying to estimate the newest generation cost and about a year used. I ended up getting a Edit: gently used Lexus NX 300t F Sport. I don't need/want a big SUV so this was ideal size, and it has enough pep in sport mode to keep me happy.

Thanks for the info. From one of your previous posts, you mentioned the founder was a felon and Carvana had a “twisted” business model so I may have misunderstood the company. I knew nothing about Carvana other than the commercials I have seen.
You seem very knowledgeable in areas of finance and I respect that. Still not won over on some of your clothing choices. 😊

About four or five years ago Mazda leadership stated their strategy was to make their products more upscale. I think it is shrewd, because they are never going to move as many units as Honda or Toyota, but they can make more profit on each if they can charge a slightly more premium price.

I think the 3 in Turbo/AWD form is competitively priced. 250 HP, AWD in a small car...so you can get a WRX cheaper and get a little more power, but have you driven a WRX? Fvckin' cheap inside lol. And don't get me started on the garbage that is the Mercedes A Class. And no Honda that compares if you want AWD.
