Herd Women outlast ULM 99-90; return home for 2

If the women had shaved their heads I would have sworn I was watching the men play. They were passing up 4 ft. shots to go for 3 pointers. And, that old mens bugaboo, no defense down low. Blows my mind.
Also - how many times did their shots rattle off the rim? It had to be at least 10…
They just weren’t falling. It happens..

And, as far as the race, #2 Troy lost at USM, so the one game lead remains….

This will be just the second meeting with ULL; Herd is 1-0. The Cajuns are the last team MU hasn’t played since joining the Belt.

Women win 74-42. Kinda ragged, but they had 35 pts on 28 Cajun turnovers…

So, 2/3 of the conference slate is in the books at 11-1. Very tough road trip next week; @ App & @ ODU. Then another vs Tx St & ULM before closing out with 2 home games vs the Georgias.

Girls get the win and improve to 12-1 in conference play... Currently a 2 1/2 game lead in the standings... Sets up a HUGE road game on Saturday at ODU. Win that one (assuming we can beat Texas State and Georgia Southern, who are both bad) and it would about lock up the regular season regardless of what JMU/Troy do.

Coach Kim could educate the men’s team in the game of basketball. One thing when she subs her players there is no drop off in production. If DD did the same we wouldn’t win a game. Talent level drops off after 7 with the men.

Fixed that for you... The men have 3 legit DI ballplayers.

Also the thing that's nice about the women's team is that they play to their STRENGTHS. Our new coach, in one year, has put together a team that can do two things really well... Shoot the 3, play full court defense/create turnovers - And that's what they do.

The men meanwhile, are absolutely awful at shooting 3's (302nd in the country) and don't really guard much of anybody... But every night we watch them hoist bad shots, take tons of 3s, and continually give up easy baskets.

One coach has adapted a game plan to win with the talent she has... The other coach has a "system" that simply doesn't work with the players we have and refuses to adjust.

100%.
And, this latest iteration of Danalytics is the worst to date. No flow, easy to defend.

Hey but our bench cheering was better….going in he said that was biggest thing he noticed in the game at Troy was our bench wasnt cheering enough after made shots so he got after his staff and players to cheer more this week….after last night’s game first thing mentioned was bench cheering was better

😂😂😂😂😂 can’t make this stuff up!!

It got pretty ragged in the 4th, but all in all a very solid performance by the Lady Herd. 13-1 heading down to TX & LA this coming week.

Great job by the women's team. Ive watches several games now and wbb officiating is absolutely terrible night in night out ....and it goes both ways.

Caldwell will have her team rolling once she gets 2-3 recruiting classes in. I don't follow womens b'ball but she is making it more interesting for sure. Hope we can keep her for 5-6 years

This year's seniors will be tough to replace...Abby Beeman, for one example, all 5'4 of her, may very well be the best player in the Sun Belt Conference, but I would think players will jump for the chance to play for a coach with her track record...both at Glenville State and at minimum what is looking like a likely regular season Sun Belt championship here in her first year.
Assuming they successfully close the deal on the Sun Belt regular season title (which seems very likely, presently they are up in the standings by two games with only four games remaining) or win the tournament she will have won a conference title in seven of her first eight seasons as a head coach, along with a D2 national championship followed by another D2 Final Four finish in her last two seasons at Glenville, with a D2 national COY award thrown in, and then she comes to Huntington and wins a Sun Belt title in her first season as a D1 coach?
The women's team is very well coached and appears to have excellent team chemistry. The next few years of the women's program at Marshall will be very exciting...they have had some great crowds this year, but wouldn't it be nice to see four or five thousand at the games!

Are we getting close to the “is Dan the worst coach in Marshall history” conversation yet? 0fer in regular season titles, 1 conference tourney title. So in 20 opportunities for a championship he has been successful once.

In the Perkins world, anything with "Marshall" written upon it is good , no matter what it accomplishes. The child's view. My team is better than your team because its my team. The fact that this team is a steaming pile of dog excrement is irrelevant in the childish view. It is HIS team, and therefore better than other teams. No analysis, no thought, no adult thinking. Just rah rah rah childishness.

But, at the end of the day, this is like people that live in a dictatorship arguing politics. The fact is that non-leader CS will keep DD as long as DD can and wants to live his fantasy camp life. What we think does not matter. The cabal and the D'Antoni political family want DD, and CS is not a leader. So there you go.

Now MU closes out it home schedule with the top two teams in this awful league, and then bumbles through two directional Georgias that make the same token effort we do, might win one or even both, doesn't matter. And then we head to Pensacola, looking at an 8th or 9th seed. Yes, that is how bad the SBC is in basketball, THIS team is mid-pack.

What we watched Saturday was one of the worst basketball games I've watched in a long time... So of course Perkins is excited about it.

This team doesn't do anything well, which is almost hard to fathom. Every team should have something, anything, they can hang their hat on. We aren't good in the paint, we suck at shooting 3's, we turn it over a lot and at inopportune times, we can't make a foul shot, and we don't really play any defense.

If you need some validation of that opinion, here are the stats...

Field goal percentage -- 325th
3pt percentage -- 296th (we actually moved up after Saturday, lol)
FT percentage -- 205th
Total rebounding -- 59th (when you miss as many shots as we do, you get extra chances to rebound!)
Defensive rank -- 11th in the SBC

Our men's team is bad, in all facets. A rudderless ship on a violent sea at the moment and one loss from guaranteeing a losing season.

Buy tickets to the women's games and watch them. Win or lose, they are entertaining and the new coach has breathed life into that program.
