Due to travel nightmares I didn't get to write this yesterday like I normally do... So here is the day-late edition of About last night, following the Herd's pivotal victory over Coastal Carolina on what is always a special weekend in Huntington.

The good -
• Ordinary football – Call me crazy, but I enjoy watching good football when no crazy shit happens. I realize that everyone loves an upset (as long as your team is doing the upsetting) but I'm fine when the better team wins and does so in almost mundane fashion.
• Wide receivers – As a group our WRs have had an up and down year, but they were good on Saturday. Big catches at big times, contested catches, downfield blocking... Overall probably their best week as a unit so far.
• Mike Green – Good lord is that kid phenomenal... He's nearing "best season ever by an MU defensive player" type good.
• Special teams – The wildest play of the game was the blocked field goal, turned TD, which definitely provided a momentum swing in the game.

The bad –
• Special teams – You read that right... Outside of one big play on the blocked field goal, our special teams was pretty much terrible the rest of the game. Kicks out of bounds, penalties, etc.
• Game length – Penalties, timeouts, replays, injuries, reviews... It was a 1 p.m. kick and midway through the third quarter I was starting to worry about my 6:30 p.m. dinner reservation. Obviously, football unlike baseball, is only one day a week so we all live with games that drag along but man it felt like Saturdays game took forever.

The ugly –
• A 32-yard safety – It's not very often I look up and say "what the heck was that"... But so it was.... The box score says 32-yard "team safety" Lol

Overall, a quality win over a team who we hadn't played well against in the past. Braxton has emerged as the guy, which is good for everyone, and we look like a team that can win our division... Next up for the Herd is our old friends from Old Dominion. A road game against a team that we always seem to play nailbiters with. We usually win (8-1 record) but its never sexy. A Herd win would basically set up an "East Division Championship" game at JMU in the final week.

Unfortunately, this comes about a month too late for us.... 😕

But these liberal cock sucking mods didn't do their job and remove the garbage known as greed. Dude ran his 71 year old lips, lost two bets to me, welched on both, and yet you liberal SOBs allow him to stay.

Strange that a player would be giving out their equipment with three to four games left to play. This equipment is funded, in its roots, by tax dollars. Those tax dollars in states like west virginia (net deficient compared to fed money taken vs. fed money given) are funded, significantly, by tax payers from other states that give more money to the feds than they take (like California).

That makes people like me the true owner of west virginia state property such as these cleats. Imagine if a state/city road worker started selling traffic lights on eBay.

The main HN board still needs resuscitation efforts. Let’s see if the mods are smart enough to keep this thread there, as it is an action by a current Marshall football player and should be kept on that board to finally drive some engagement there.

I had the opportunity to attend the Marshall - Coastal football game on Saturday. It was the first time I had seen a live game or been back to Huntington in probably more than a decade.

Not surprisingly, the road between Charleston and Huntington is still under construction. Must be a hundred year project because I never remember a time the roads in that area were whole.

I did a quick drive around the campus. Lots of new stuff and lots of changes. When I looked at the students, I wondered if I could have ever been that young. I also noticed that a number of buildings I remembered are not there anymore.

There was a good tailgating crowd, but I didn’t have any problem walking up to the ticket window and buying a ticket. Prices were of course higher than the last time I was there. Same with concessions.

Before I entered the stadium, I wandered around the various tents and tailgaters looking for Herd Nation people. No one was lying on the ground drunk and throwing up so I guess none of you guys made it to the game. Sorry I missed you.

The game was a good one. I’m ashamed to admit that I cheered for the wrong team for the first five minutes. I was on sensory overload and I’m half blind so the teal and white uniforms that Coastal were wearing looked like green and white to me. I wondered why our green had become so faded.

Marshall was hot and cold and the outcome was in doubt right up to the end. One thing that hasn’t changed is people leaving in the 4th quarter even though it was still a close exciting game. One other thing that hasn’t changed is the bathrooms. Come on, Marshall. You can erect a new multi million dollar scoreboard and can’t spring for some new urinals?

We won, I stopped at Menards and bought a window, and the trip home was uneventful. I had a good time.

I’ve been on two continents in the last day. In both, when I try to go to HN, I get a “forbidden - 403” message.

Get your shit together, Rivals. And no, I’m not going to clear my cookies and lose my frequent websites.

So much waste. Can't wait for Elon to get his hands in cleaning this shit up.

Floating around that he may be brought back to active duty. Why? To face a court martial.

Military Officers can be brought back at any time to service.

BEAT WVU

Bela Karolyi has died.

He was a prick, but he was the best gymnastics coach ever. And he also negatively impacted me: each time I was about to bust on one of my mother’s newer, soft hand towels while watching Dominique Moceanu or Shannon Miller from a behind shot, the broadcast would then show Bela and his mustache, which was a mood killer for me.

Old-school, expecting perfection coaching was his style.

So far.

HN has learned that Rob Fulford has been hired by Marshall and will be part of Corny Jackson's staff.

T&Cs are done and Fulford has let Akron know of his decision. He should be in town tomorrow for day one on the job.

MU was able to match Fulford's salary at Akron and put together an attractive NIL package/pool for Fulford to recruit with moving forward.

Needed to win at home against a team that is 5-2 on the season. We did. Needed to figure out a way to stop them late and we did. Needed to win to stay in the East race and we did.

Fans want to play for championships. But they only seem to want to bother to show up to the actual championship (although they usually stay home then too)

No one bothered to show up yesterday. Students were super disappointing in regards to the turnout. The ones that come are awesome.

No high school playoffs

Yet you stayed home.

Some have made negative comments about the game even though they were at other games because they couldn’t come in. Some have made comments that they can’t even get excited over a win. One even said they forgot we were playing. (Fan apathy, yawn, etc)

Defense played big when it mattered. The last seven minutes at Georgia southern sucks. Wish we could have gotten them beat last night but we didn’t.

Just need to keep winning and see what happens

Kudos to everyone there, a lot of people (except students) actually stayed till the end!
