That's not true. Not like this. Completely not true. The god damn moron ordered the air base given up and the airport. the god damn runways we needed. Hell, that's a start.
This is what makes the decision so baffling. The “fighting” was virtually non existent between our troops and taliban. No American deaths since Feb 2020. Afghan military was fighting the ground game and we were providing the backup air support they requested when needed. The city of Kabul appears to have been relatively peaceful. We built and maintained an airbase for which we were successfully conducting air missions and anti terrorism activities (the #1 mission) A new embassy built and the ability to work more diplomatically when necessary, with countless Afghanis who wanted and needed us there…..and we just leave.
Even Obama was smart enough to learn there were longer term strategic reasons beneficial to our being there and not just leaving a vacuum of support and leadership.
