He said we have a great offense. Like the old Suns. Mentioned what we all know... weak inside. He said we are -6 on rebounds and only a great offensive team would be 7-4. He said we are well coached and execute flawlessly. Shows me we are getting close. Next year with the arrival of some more inside help could just push us to the next level. I am going on record the the hire of DD is a great hire and will set us up way into the future. Could possibly see DuHon taking over someday

No real inside help coming next year unless we get the JUCO we are recruiting. Bennett and Robinette will will be a NQ'ers next year

The big men seem to be the defensive lineman of basketball, hard to recruit for a mid major with a lot of busts. Really all we need is someone who can hit the boards and alter shots, doesn't have to be an offensive asset other than rebounding.

I think the big guys we signed won't see the floor until the 18-19 season, at least that's what's been discussed. Correct?

Your defensive lineman analogy is a good one. However, the difference between football and basketball is those defensive lineman are specialists who come off the field when the offense comes out. In basketball, if you have an ogre out there who can't provide anything but rebounding, you're going to struggle to space the floor.

Go read ODU's coach's comments when we thumped them last year in Huntington. They had a big man who couldn't do anything outside 5ft from the basket. So, Ryan Taylor slacked off him and shaded toward Freeman. Their coach talked in the post game about not having an answer for how we defended them because it was basically 5 guarding 4.

Now, obviously I'm not trying to say we don't need help at our 4/5 positions. We do. Some of that help is on the roster with Thompson--whenever he gets back--and I think people would have a different view on Penava if he was a redshirt freshman (like he should be). I'm just trying to point out that it isn't as simple as bringing in someone who is big and his only skill set is rebounding. Because that will create 5 on 4 basketball--and it won't be in our favor.

We didn't fall into a hole vs Pitt because of our lack of rebounding. We fell behind because they were 9-17 from behind the arc in the first half (and 1-7 in the second). And our lack of rebounding didn't keep us from getting back into that game, and it wasn't our rebounding that kept us from getting it to 1 possession late in the second half; their 21-29 FT shooting (12-14 in the last 5:00) did. We shot 33.3% from behind the arc in each half, while getting out rebounded by 4 in the entire game. Was it our strength (shooting) that kept us from winning that game, or was it our rebounding?

I've noticed MU has a habit of running faster/harder toward their basket than the other teams bucket. Just sayin.

I said early this team can only go about 7 deep so when Thompson got hurt it created a problem.
