it is nowhere close to grasping at straws, which is why the other person conceded that part of the argument.
those in combat only have a couple of options at that point: follow orders and take the risk of injury/death; dont follow orders and hide/run, in turn, risking jail time or injury/death. really, they dont have much of a choice in the matter at that point if they want to show courage or not. their options are extremely limited.
im not sure courage is the word to use. mental toughness seems to be a more accurate term. if you dont have a choice on doing something or not, i dont consider doing it "courageous." you really dont have another option. if i am on top of a skyscraper and a guy has a gun to my head telling me to jump or he will blow my brains out, it wouldnt be courageous for me to take the huge risk of trying to fight the gun away before he can pull the trigger. i dont really have any other option if i want to survive. not whimpering like a kid and just giving in without a fight would take some mental toughness, just like those in combat have to do. but, courage? it's not courageous if you dont have a choice.
This is the best thing I've read on here in a while. I am struggling to find interest in much of anything though. After spending several years depriving myself of pretty much everything I ever liked, I have come to take a sort of sick pride in not needing anything.
Always figured I'd be fired and sent back to the hills to live on a pittance. Now that it may not happen, I'm not sure how to handle it. I think they're counting on me. I don't want to let them down, but other than that I'm not much interested in anything. Even sports seem like a dumb waste of time now, but I still follow them out of routine.
Scared out of ever wanting anything. I'd probably lose it if I ever bought anything worth having. As long as I stick to garbage, nothing much is on the line and I can hold onto sanity and be able to keep working.
