Religion: ain't it grand

We both agree that killing a person is wrong. The difference we have is that I don't consider a glob of cells being vacuumed as killing a person.

Yeah, we both agree that killing a person is wrong. You and I are a "glob of cells" that have been allowed to continue our natural growth and development.

Rifle, why do you reject science only on the topic of abortion? Science proves abortion kills a living being.

Do aborted babies go straight to heaven? If so, what a gift God has given them. Free pass right in without having to fight to stay within the rules for decades on earth.

As far as I know Walden, nobody at this time who dies goes straight to heaven. But if I'm correct and those who are aborted are in fact human beings, then they will certainly go to heaven at the resurrection of the dead.

ill answer that by discussing your inconsistency on the matter as soon as you explain this:

why are you willing to use science as the basis for any argument now, while avoiding it and discarding it on many other religious issues?

yeah, ducky. just envision ellis island in 1910 without any jews. instead, you will be hanging out with all communists. heaven will be full of nothing but sinless people. communism reigns supreme up there because everyone is exactly equal in everything, there are no sins committed, and everyone gets the same things.

And then envision the day of judgement.....without hope. For no other reason than you choose death rather than life, darkness rather than light, evil rather than good.

A glob of cells that miscarries, does it go to heaven??

How come our age doesn't reflect date of conception?

Im all for abortion and its not our duty to tell a women what to do with her body. If the glob of cells dont have a heart beat its not living

The only thing that changes is how the organism died. So my opinion is yes.

How come our age doesn't reflect date of conception?

Maybe because it's our birthday, not our conception day.

Im all for abortion and its not our duty to tell a women what to do with her body. If the glob of cells dont have a heart beat its not living

Good thing for you your mother didn't feel the same way.

Actually my mother does feel the same way and is in church every Saturday the truth sabbath. Unlike you fake sunday worshipping christians

everyone gets the same things

I knew I was already in heaven. As I predicted a while back, it's every bit as boring as I dreamed it would be.

Well, there are many great distractions as I've said. Baseball right now. When will Clayton Kershaw get it together? I think he will. Anyhow, distractions abound, but when the TV is off and the silence fills the air, an eerie meaninglessness settles in.

Then I turn on the fan.

Well, I think he covers himself on it by preaching about unanswered prayers and how they turn out for the better anyway. His message is pretty much you've already got it all. God gave it to you. Enjoy it and walk with Christ and you'll have more and more blessings.

It's all a very nice message. I'm not sold on God and an afterlife, but I think it's a good way to go about this life. We all sit around complaining that we don't have this or that, yet do nothing to get it. That means we don't really even want it. So, we might as well enjoy what we've got.

I agree with you walden. The Christians that bitch the most about Olsteen are the ones I've found to be the most bitter, confused, doubtful, guilt ridden, angry about various aspects of their life. Because, in their mind, that's the way life was "meant to be". A hard struggle. And if a preacher isn't preaching "struggle", then he must be a fraud.

I will discuss your question when you answer mine. You're not going to get away with deflecting.

It's not deflecting. I'll be using your response, either way you go, to show you how illogical your position is.

Ready . . . go!

They seem quite vengeful. I can certainly identify with that.

The problem is, once you realize you can exact this great revenge, you find out it's a big waste of time and effort. Going back home and yelling at relatives would not be productive, relaxing or enjoyable. What kind of reward is that?

So instead of that, I sit out here quietly watching ballgames and eating beef. Just like I wrote was my goal in life 8 or 9 years ago, jokingly on a resume I wrote on a piece of notebook paper. There was a lot of truth in that joke.

A living being or a living organism? Technically the sperm and the egg are living organisms/cells prior to conception.

I don't think its vengeful as much as its meant to control the congregation. This point was made somewhere else in this thread. If a preacher with a specific doctrine can keep you feeling needy in some emotional way, it keeps the lights on in that church. Not much different than any big govt program really. Its like welfare payments for the spirit/soul. The minute a preacher (like Olsteen) says "you can have what you want out of life....I'm not completely necessary for your faith or your abundant living"; the devout "Christian" religious and the religious skeptics both come out to attack. Both claiming some degree of "hypocrisy" of course. I'm not saying he is 100% right about everything (read a few small excerpts out of his books, watched him a few times), but that's probably how you know the guy is on to something more positive than the religious bunk I was raised with IMO.

Sometimes his good looking wife will ask for money at the end, but she's easy on the eyes and has a nice voice. She's real nice about it. And since they're both rich and look like Hollywood, it's so easy to just say no to that part of it and turn the channel.

That's a lot better than those animal commercials or the ones with the kids in Africa with flies on them.

Joel Osteen and that woman are just nice people being nice. At least on TV, and that's all I have to see and know about. So even though I don't believe in the God and afterlife stuff, I'll probably keep watching if I'm at home when it comes on.

I can see how people outside the church could tolerate olsteen doctrine. There's no condemnation by the word he preaches. Like someone said earlier, its false doctrine.

If real church is based on condemnation, then that should be the total message. All the time. Not an Osteen type sales pitch, then get you in the door and start in with the hellfire and brimstone.

I've been to that church and seen the people. Old with faces shaped with years of anger, frozen that way. Even when they smile, they still look mad.

I always thought being old and mad was smart, but that was before I realized the toll it takes on your health. It's painful. Hurts. Doesn't make you any better or more able to do things. So it's a dumb waste of effort.

I have no clue what you ate talking about. Apparently, neither do you.

Osteen is preaching a false doctrine. It's add simple as that. You don't have to live a miserable, angry life to know that. I'm pretty happy in my life and faith and I think Osteen is a complete fraud whose focus is on feeling good and material wealth, not Christ.

I enjoy Osteen's motivational message.

But for pure entertainment value, there is no beating Benny Hinn. He's right up there with the best stand up comedians of all time.

I forgot. I have to add, many Christians seem to be the most judgmental too. Olsteen is a fraud because he preaches "feeling good" and "wealth"? This is why people who believe in Bible infallibility are really interesting to watch. One minute they claim they are happy, the next minute they are complaining because a preacher isn't preaching "feeling bad". Christ's entire message (if you actually believe he existed) was all about living a wealthy, abundant life. "Wealth" is not always simply about $$$$. False (bible thumping)"doctrine" narrows the mind from understanding that simple fact.

This post is full of so many fallacies - both factual and logical - it doesn't warrant a legitimate response.

Get the hellfire and brimstone out then. Come on, don't hold it back. Let's see it. I'm kind of envious of those who have the energy for it.

Maybe you can inspire me through God's fear to start enjoying life to the fullest again by hogging, getting fat and refilling myself with the energy to be a hellraiser once again. It felt good. It felt like I was young and full of life. Now it's like I'm old, tired and about ready to die.

Those always seem to come on right in the middle of supper. That woman singing the sad song while they're showing pictures of dogs with their rib cages showing. It makes me feel guilty as hell taking a big bite out of my whopper. Sometimes, I can't even eat it after seeing the African kids slobber yellow goo down their chins.

Interesting. I simply restated what you originally stated to me originally. Now it's fallacy? Sums up perfectly most doctrines which justifies being broke in this world, jealously pointing to another's worldly sin of wealth while hoping they hit the heavenly lottery ticket of inheriting streets of gold and mansions after you are dead

so when was the last time you guys offered a "legitimate" response? Reading Greed respond on religious topics as if he is authority is a whole lot richer than Olsteen ever thought about being.:)

My understanding of religious topics is far, far above yours. Not because I have some great understanding, but because you have none.

Salvation has nothing to do with avoiding hellfire and brimstone and everything to do with a personal relationship in Christ. The modern church, especially in Appalachia, has done a terrible job confusing the ywo.

If you actually think that's what you did, then bless your heart. You and I are living in two entirely different realities, frienf.

Where does Osteen miss the mark on it?

I am assuming it's the absence of hellfire and brimstone from his sermons. How much condemnation is required in order to meet the standards?

I can copy and paste bible versus just like you can Greed. That's about the extent of the understanding you have.

And look there. Thunder still can't come up with a legitimate response. Every one of Jesus's miracles and beatitudes were based on the premise of prosperity and abundance of thought and action (aka "wealth"). Keep denying it Thunder. Your doctrine has blinded you well.

Don't get me wrong there is nothing wrong with a positive attitude. At the same time, having a positive attitude doesn't mean everything is going to work out in your favor. Christ's gospel offers no promise of prosperity or a carefree life, which is what Osteen teaches. Osteen teaches you can have that job, good health, house etc. if you just stay positive, follow God's teachings, and ask Him for those things. That is false doctrine.

Yep. They are pissed because Joel isn't teaching fear as the basis for his religion. They can't even really explain it. They just have a "hope" and "faith" that the gold payout happens once they are planted.
