I wouldn't say it is an excuse, it just shows that we are a young team in age and experience. We only have 12 SRs in the 2-deep with only 20 of 44 2-deep players being upperclassmen. We also currently have 11 FR in the 2-deep that have had significant PT. Interestingly, only 24 of the 63 players that have played on offense ad defense this season are upperclassmen. It isn't an excuse as there is a lot of talent on the roster, but it certainly shows why we could be struggling as a team.

Interesting stat. I'm literally watching paint dry so I thought I'd do a little research to see how the rest of the conference stacks up. Here's the current standings with the number of seniors on the roster and the number of senior starters;

East
FIU 3-4, 3-0, 18 seniors, 9 starters
ODU 4-2, 2-0, 13 seniors, 8 starters
MT 4-2, 2-1, 20 seniors, 10 starters
WKU 4-3, 2-1, 25 seniors, 11 starters
Marshall 2-4, 1-1, 13 seniors, 8 starters
Charlotte 2-5, 1-2, 28 seniors, 10 starters
FAU 1-6, 0-3, 15 seniors, 4 starters

West
LT 4-3, 2-1, 22 seniors, 9 starters
USM 4-2, 2-1, 23 seniors, 11 starters
UNT 3-3, 2-1, 18 seniors, 10 starters
UTSA 3-3, 2-1, 20 seniors, 8 starters
UTEP 1-5, 0-3, 22 seniors, 9 starters
Rice 0-6, 0-4, 15 seniors, 8 starters

It looks like Marshall and ODU are the youngest. Digging a little deeper, the Herd has 23 Fr and So on the 2-deep depth chart and ODU has 22. Quite a few teams (MT, WKU, USM, UTEP, and Charlotte) will probably take take a big hit next year while teams such as ODU and UTSA will be trending upwards.

Another key to look at is upperclassmen starters and upperclassmen in the 2-deep. We only have 11 upperclassmen starters. Only 20 of 44 players in our main 2-deep are upperclassmen, and only 24 of 63 players that have played on defense/offense this year are upperclassmen, with 20 FR getting PT.

By contrast, the 2014 team had 18 upperclassmen starters with 12 SR starters. There were also 27 upperclassmen in the main 2-deep, and of the players that played on offense/defense in 2014, there were 33 upperclassmen of 64 players, with 18 FR getting PT. of those 18 FR, only 11 are still in the program.

The 2014 team was vastly more experienced than this years team in terms of age, game experience, and starting experience and it shows in our performance this season.

We can crunch numbers, compare rosters complete spreadsheets all we want.... But in the 7th year of Holliday's term and with where our program was at just two years ago, there is absolutely NO acceptable reason we should be handwringing about beating Charlotte or getting bowl eligible in this conference.

So does this mean Brad Lambert doesn't boot players over tweets and other silly things?
