The vast majority of my vet friends support the players who take a knee, and the ones that don't....because they support the freedom to express one's beliefs.
Anyway, I don't get you people who were fine watching Mike Vick and Ray Lewis but now you are all disgusted.
I agree with you Raoul but just a couple months ago you were arguing that free expression has limits in the work place, with the google guy, this is no different

The league and owners should have just put their foot down to start with. Stand up or you are not playing. You will be fined. And, if you keep it up you will be dismissed.
That is a separate issue. If the NFL chooses to punish players for kneeling, that is their right...although I am very wary of an employer mandating forced patriotism, and would argue forcing patriotism in a stadium paid for by taxpayers should be illegal. My issue is I just DGAF if they kneeling or not, and I don't understand how any real NFL fan could care either after years of watching thugs play ball. It's all fake outrage, mixed in with a little racism, people are bitching because they have been programmed to bitch about this shit.

Ehhh, the taxpayer isn't signing the players paychecks. That will always rule the day. The taxpayer has no say in the operation of those stadiums.
I think this whole fan backlash is more related to the fans boycotting the "politicization" of everything in society. I believe (beyond all the left/right narratives) most fans inherently have a general appreciation for many opportunities the country provides. And watching highly paid athletes (who are paid to play a game and entertain) turning the fans escape of such politicization into a platform for politically protesting the country is just enough for many to say "fvck it, I've got other things I can do that would be more productive."

Currently the law agrees with you, I just don't believe the law is correct.
I think some of it is that. But politics, and race, have always been an undercurrent in American sports. Jackie Robinson, Ali, the raised fist at the Olympics. It just hasn't been for a while. And for me it's my understanding that sports is a meaningless escape that makes me not GAF. I used to invest a lot more of myself in fandom, but I just don't anymore. It's made going to see games more fun, that's for sure lol. Win or lose doesn't matter, it's like watching movie for me these days. Except for Indiana basketball.
I don't disagree, but this is where the current athlete has little understanding/context of what the athletes of that era were actually up against. Attempts to equate the 40's, 50's or 60's era racial/inequality fight to modern day is laughable. Again, you have (in this case) multi millionaire (minority) athletes, at the high of privilege and prestige, boycotting the symbol of what they believe is an overall racist, oppressive, country. It just doesn't fly for a whole host of reasons.
They chose the wrong venue and tactic to promote their (misguided) message. It backfired.
I promise you I would. Even in the Pros. I could find 52 other guys to play football if I had to that would line up at the chance to play pro ball. It is a business and the NFL is losing their ass right now and credibility.
