Why does Hillary waste her time on this?

Or maybe it's because WV has the 4th oldest population in the country, lots of black lung disabled, and lots of people work jobs that are physically demanding.

Well, that's one possible explanation. If you look at the age distribution of those receiving SSI disability in the state, it's most likely also not correct. When you also consider the percentage that are on disability due to "back and neck issues" it doesn't support your explanation either.

You have a link to those stats for age distribution? I can't find them.
Back and neck issues would certainly fit my physically demanding jobs criteria.

What shocks me is the mentality of these men who really did real hard labor work for many years. Everyday, they went out and moved mountains, dug ditches, mined coal, etc. All of a sudden they can't do that anymore or the job leaves and they just stand there with their mouths open.

These big bad tough guys can't learn how to do another job? Can't move where the work is now? They settle for disability. Disability is a loss. Loss of purpose, loss of accomplishment, loss of opportunity. Might as well just go ahead and dig the grave.

Have you ever done a single hard days work, physically, in your entire existence? I doubt it.

Probably not. I've cut trees, mowed grass, things like that. Not for a full day though.

So what does it do, make you unable to do anything else ever? I always thought it was healthy to work hard like that. That's what the old folks always said. Work's good for you. How good is it if it disables you to the point that you can't do any job at all?

If non-physical work is so easy, why can't these people transition into that kind of work?

The first link I provided stated that it was people between the ages of 18-64. The neck and back issue is often claimed because it is the hardest to prove or disprove and WV has, by far, the highest claim rate for this particular disability.

Yes, you can claim folks in WV have physically demanding jobs, but are they any more demanding than the loggers of the Pacific Northwest, masons that do all these skyscrapers in large cities, etc.? As a matter of fact, many states have a much higher workforce distribution in the construction and manufacturing sectors than WV.
