An Old Dominion University men’s basketball player suffered a terrifying ordeal on Saturday as the team took on Georgia Southern.

The incident occurred with about 13:13 left in the first half. Old Dominion sophomore guard Imo Essien was on the defensive side of the ball when he fell onto his backside on the court. He struggled to get back to his feet and started to lay down on his back appearing to be in pain.


Medical personnel for Old Dominion rushed over to attend to Essien. He didn’t appear to lose consciousness and was helped to his feet and walked off the court with the trainers.

"Imo Essien was evaluated by the ODU Athletic Training staff along with the GA Southern medical staff," the school stated. "He was responsive throughout and was able to sit with the team for the duration of the game and drove home with the team."

A lot of local talent on this team, including 4 from WV and a 5th from Chesapeake.

MU has to go 7-5, as only one I-AA win counts. Of the six games remaining, three teams are simply a whole lot better than us. The other three we could beat. So 6-6 is best case scenario, which is short.

However, it is pretty clear that CH has lost control of this team and we have every chance to lose out.

I’m not sure how many of you had the chance to watch Coach Beals press conference yesterday afternoon but I came away extremely impressed. Extremely well spoken. Has a clear vision for the Baseball program. He stated he can see the Baseball program being the show in town from March-May with the product he’s going to put on the field and the new stadium. As fans we’ve rightfully so been pessimistic over the years when it comes to this program. It’s time to put that behind us. From the leadership at Marshall to the new Head Coach it’s now different. The stadium is coming people. February of 24. It’s not a wish or a hope it’s reality. Hopefully all of you all and many others will get to Route 2 and support these student athletes this season as well. As Beals stated there is talent in the program right now.

How bad is the current recession going to get? We are usually at the front of economic gain or loss. We can see it already. Really saw it hit with obvious numbers in Nov. Really before, but real measurable declines in Nov. Haven't seen Dec numbers yet but, I imagine it will be down again. I saw fewer year end purchases this year than I have in some time.

Housing market is declining. New construction is slowing way down.
