Yep. The ESPN model, which to review is to force "everybody" to pay for ESPN, even if they have no interest in sports (and, yes, there are lots of people who have no interest in sports) which has been copied by Fox, NBC, and CBS, is dying. Leaving out channels with sports part time like TBS or TNT of the broadcast networks, you pay about $14/month for sports channels via your cable or dish bill.
Now there are ways to get only the channels you want. A lot of people don't want sports channels.
ESPN is burdened with multiple layers of empty suit executives, massive over-bid contracts including an absolutely crazy money loser with the NBA, and over-paid talking head no-talents. There will be pain as they try to get back to a rational place. Could not happen to a nicer bunch.
And, yes, all of these ginned up bowl games which ESPN owns are part of it. Remember the lowly MAC? Win the conference was the O N L Y way to get a bowl. Those days may come again.
As to a G5 channel (probably G4, as the delusional and arrogant THE AMERICAN!!!!!! would not participate) I would sign up yesterday. The ACC is getting a channel next year, which means all four of the major conferneces will have one. It is the next logical step.
