Do my dirty work

With all the bitching about the state of our football program, I am curios as to just how Marshall stacks up. There are ten conferences and 130 teams that play Division I football. Given a ten year time frame, how many conference championships has each team won? For example, Marshall has won only one.

I plan on going out for a nice dinner because I don't want to sit here and look up all the statistics. Some of you guys (and girls?) love looking up those details so see what you can find. I would bet there are a number of teams that have never won a championship over the ten year time period.

DraftKings CFB

I do DraftKings and play the College Football. What I found comical while picking my team was that they have 8 conference championship games and players tomorrow to choose from. Only problem is, there are 9 championships tomorrow. DraftKings gave the proverbial f-you to Conference USA. Yes, they may have solidified our conference standing as the shittiest in FBS. Go Herd

Theological question

Was at a Christmas service at a local church last night and the pastor was reading the Christmas story from various books of the Bible. When he got to the part about the Magi, it made me wonder. They said they came to see the new King of the Jews based on a celestial sign.

My question - on what text or prophecy were they relying in following this star? I don't recall any Old Testament passages discussing this sign or event. Am I wrong on that? If not, does that mean there are other writings/texts from Jewish scholars that exist that should be considered canonical or, at the very least, companion pieces to Isiah, etc.? Are there non-Jewish or non-Christian writers, scholars, or prophets that predicted the coming of Christ?

Btw, I already know some of you view this as fiction, so your replies are unnecessary. In other words, save the thread jacking for something else.

Civil War Monument Controversy

As we see this go on around the country and one of the big fights has been at UNC in Chapel Hill over the monument "Silent Sam". The university removed the monument and now has reached a $2.5 million dollar settlement with the Sons of the Confederacy to ensure the monument will not return to their campus. Article: https://www.wral.com/unc-system-son...rans-reach-settlement-on-silent-sam/18798031/

Many of the monuments around the country actually belong to groups like Sons and Daughters of the Confederacy and were place on school grounds, county property, etc. Expect more settlements like this.

But, here is my point today. It wasn't a problem for legendary Tar Heels like Michael Jordan and Sam Perkins back in the 1980's. Now it is. Local and state government get ready to get your check books out. Plus, these monuments are going to come back on private property. Hey look there is Silent Sam(or whatever monument ) on the edge of I-95 or in downtown Charlotte(example). Not a thing they can do it about it then.

Tar Heels with their picture of Silent Sam. Man, they were upset with that statue weren't they? Whiny ass protesters just cost the university(i.e. taxpayers) $2.5 million dollars. More to come, fools.

Ethics of charity care/spanish interpreter in hospital

Here's something that grinds my gears.

I take care of a hispanic cohort of patients, the vast majority are illegal immigrants. They're typically very nice people, so the hospital and staff treat them essentially 100% free of charge. Obviously, this is an issue on a bigger scale but we're not discussing that.

So they get very expensive cancer treatments and donated physician time because they're not eligible for insurance and typically have no cash to pay. OK. So we donate time and money for them.

But what grinds my gears is that by law they have to have an interpreter present because my Spanish is crap. We then turn around and pay the interpreter company $75/hour at every visit. So we donate our time and money here, but this interpreter company isn't donating their time and money and is making money off of our charity. Pisses me off. So whatever costs and time we donate for care we have to then pay out of our operating budget more money for an interpreter. Why is the interpreter not donating their time too?

We're switching to virtual face time/i pad interpreters soon for cost savings.
