Basketball teams can turn around within 2 recruiting classes.
This is his Third class and once again the its a below average class with no star power

Bob Huggins has a near 100% graduation rate at WVU, with the one exception being Devin Ebanks, who left for the NBA at 2 years. Football is above 75%, which for a roster of more than 100 kids, is good.
and in the 2015-16 match up, the lead was 18 points at the 8 minutes remaining mark, but D'Antoni re-instituted his press defense once Huggins put the walk-ons in the game..... and the lead stayed at 18. In fact, the Herd didn't get within single-digits after the first 6 minutes in the 2nd half
next question please
Cool Story Bro but who cares. People only care about wins and losses and recruiting talent players. He hasnt done either
As for KeatonsCorner's possible "coaching replacements" for MU, I would say that based on his progression in a brief coaching tenure, Darrius Nichols, a former WVU player, is probably on tract to end up back in Morganhole in the not too distant future. Look, he played for Huggins who is about 63 or 64, way overweight with some apparent heart issues. Huggs contracted for another 5 or 6 years or so then slated for a PR/fund raising post. Billy Hahn, long time assistant and a good recruiter, also up in years and could retire soon. So if Florida and Nichols, under head coach White who was at LA Tech, have sustained success, I could well see that Nichols will be with Huggs as Assoc. Head Coach in a few years, and then slides into head job when Huggs hangs it up.
As for DD, my major concern is that he is SOON going to have to recruit one or more, some, FRONT Court players with real TALENT. Kelly is gone and so is Taylor after this season, and NO ONE, on current squad or in upcoming recruiting class, is near as talented or ready to contribute big time to the program. We have a lot of role type forwards, or projects, Penava, Thompson, Thinemann, Williams, the kid now at Hargrave, Bledsoe, etc., etc., but we need a instant dose of ready to play front court talent, after this season, IMO. And, personally, I don't care if Danny D. and Coach Cline find it in the form of graduate transfers, like Kelly, or a quality talent from the JUCO ranks: Just FIND IT!!
Final comment: If you want an example of contrasting coaching philosophies, I suggest Herd fans keep an eye on the program of one our former league colleagues and heated rivals: East Tennessee State. Last year, they brought in a career assistant, Steve Forbes, from Greg Marshall's Wichita St. staff as their head coach. Forbes brought in Jucos and transfer players from schools like Indiana, Wichita State, etc. His team proceeded to win 24 games, competed for So Con. championship, and in the post season tournament in Las Vegas, they beat LA. Tech of CUSA!! Also, did not appear to have any significant off court issues, as of to date. So I would say watch ETSU, and, as some have mentioned, Kevin Keatts's UNC Wilmington program. It just could be that these programs, as well as our own program, will find success on the hardwoods, including sustained winning seasons and post season appearances, using very divergent coaching and recruiting philosophies!!! And who is to say one way is better than the other? Or as ole Chairman Mao would say, "let a hundred flowers bloom".![]()
Here's my question, can Huggins quit drinking long enough to lose the title of the "winningest coach with the least amount of actual achievements"?
R U willing to give him time like Wichita State gave Greg Marshall? Took him FOUR YEARS to get them to the NIT Championship crown.

What does Huggins have to do with anything about our mediocre basketball program??
wvu basketball is at 82% and wvu football is at 80% and the graduation rates only factor in scholarship athletes, so football doesn't have a roster of more than 100 kids.
There's no defense on this roster.
Posters are falling Kelly a lady defender but at least he hit the boards and occasionally altered or blocked shots.
Elmore and Burke are the only guards who can move fast enough to defend, and Burks gets in foul trouble...... and he may not be eligible anyways!
Ryan Taylor at 6'5 in shoes can't guard the post against legit CUSA big men without catching fouls either.
So who comes in? Nobody. He will bring in another guard and play EVEN SMALLER ball..... and then wonder why MU can't stop anyone.
The dumbest thing Dan has done is publicly state he didn't want to recruit JUCOs and instead "build the program correctly"..... well, JUCO talent provides instant-impact players and at a time where powerhouse teams like U.K. And Arizona are diving into JUCO recruiting..... you have you ask yourself how absolutely Stupid is it for the HC at Marshall University to swear off junior college recruiting
I think that was his way of hiding the fact that he has zero connections to the JUCO basketball community. Like the nerd standing outside the Prom and saying "I didn't want to go anyways!"
Gregg Marshall was a proven coach before he got to Wichita State........PROVEN.
Also Witchita State doesn't have a football program to support.

And can you please stop the arrows....makes you look retarded
Scouting reports on the kid from other sites. He's Levi Cook.......... space eater and low-post/block guy with his back to the basket. Range out to the foul line, but nothing more. The kid played single-A ball here in VA, which is not good basketball (same as in WV) and didn't do anything on the AAU trail. A very weird commitment to take for a style like Dan's.
He was rated the 61st best HS player in the state of VA last season as a senior. Had to prep at Hargrave because he didn't have the grades too.
But at the end of the day.......... the offer lists tell the story. Marshall won't compete for conference titles in CUSA signing kids that don't have the attention of their competition.
As I write this, MU just missed out on another offered PG, Kam Langley, to North Carolina A&T........ that's the level of kids Dan is pursuing, and he's not even getting them!
Dillon is a kid I wanted WVU to keep tabs on.
Dan says "Recruiting is hard......... let's just take who we know we can sign and see what happens. I'm ready to get home"
The "Dan recruits to his system" folks won't acknowledge that the following DON'T/DIDN'T fit Dan's system:
Mijovic - can't shoot from distance, can't run the court well
Thompson - has no range outside 10 feet
Penava - can't shoot from distance, can't run the court well
Dozic - couldn't cut it
Nikolic - 6'5 PG should be perfect, but he doesn't shoot the 3 well at all, and shies from it
Robinette ('17 commit) - big body with low mobility and low athleticism. Range out to the foul line
I mean............. that's half the kids that Dan has taken commitments from since arriving NOT being "his system" guys.
No, you listen to a fool like a fool.I never accepted the fools gold.
Hey cockeyherd look at the rosters of some of the schools you mention. You will quickly see that they are not comprised almost solely if in-state high school kids. Secondly they have coaches who can recruit talented players - not just to give an in-state kid a scholarship when they may not be D1 caliber to begin with.
but we will be a pretty good team in the 2016-2017 season.
Thompson and Mijovic are fine in the 5 position in the system, and Thompson is a good defender and rebounder, while Mijovic provides minutes as a decent backup. Penava just needs to put on weight so that he quits looking like an Auschwitz survivor then he will be fine as a backup. Nikolic could turn into a very good player if his shooting improves, and Robinette isn't slow and he has above average athleticism for the position he will play in our system.
I'm at practice nearly everyday. I love what I see. We are much quicker and we shoot better than last year. Someone mentioned Adjin's weight. I was talking to him last night and asked him what he weighed when he came in the door at MU. He said 184 and now at 215. He agrees he has a long way to go but he's getting there. Aleksa and Milan are similar in different ways. While Aleksa is bulking up, Milan has totally changed his body since coming. I was also talking to him last night. He is 30 pounds lighter then when he came but he has gained a lot of muscle. If we get Bennett and Robinette on the floor you will see 2 beefed up guys that do NOT play with their backs to the basket. They shoot the 3's and run the floor very well.I tried to start a thread with this question....Anyone been to practice recently?
To say Robinette is an above average athlete is to admit you haven't seen him move before or that you simply don't acknowledge reality
He's 6'7 270+ pounds and went to prep school at Harvgrave because he couldn't get his grades and his conditioning in order
Carolinazilla if he wasn't family you would be questioning the recruiting as well. As for the old "it takes time" is BS. Seems as if Marshall always needs time. If he can't get it done in this year or next (his fourth) with his WV HS All Star team then it's time to move away from the "Favorite Son" mentality and get a coach to recruit the talent to get us back to respectability.
Getting it done is making, at least, the NIT, three out of four years on a consistent basis. Getting it done is being known nationally. Getting it done is playing in games that have meaning and impact. Getting it done is making the NCAAs, winning a game or two, getting seeded higher than 14th or 15th, and being significant enough that we don't get sent to Boise or Salt Lake City. Getting it done is talking about if a 9K seat arena, with more than 2K of those bleacher, is enough. Getting it done is building a fanbase that gets games on radio statewide and multiple games on TV. Getting it done is playing regional teams of note non-conference, on a h-h basis and going to significant pre-season tournament in resort places. Getting it done is when (not if) realignment comes again, not having to miss out on a conf. deal because of basketball.
"Pretty good", which means 4th or 5th in a one-bid league is not "getting it done".

Not sure how long you've been a Marshall fan......But taking into account our history, budget, facilities, academic offerings, and location.....You need to temper your expectations.
No cocky you need to temper your expectations. We have been saddled with mediocrity for so long it has become the norm and newcomers like yourself have no idea what it could or should be.
Our history is grand, our budget is getting better, our facilities are nice, our academic offerings are magnificient, and Huntington is a great place, still, to live or to go to school.
