Walmart is just the latest company to increase wages and offer other benefits to employees because of the Trump tax plan.

In a letter to workers of the company, CEO Doug McMillon further explained the benefits of the tax plan.

"We’ve got some really good news to share today. As you know, the President and Congress have approved a lower business tax rate. Given these changes, we have an opportunity to accelerate a few pieces of our investment plan. We plan to continue investing in you, in our customers through lower prices, and in our future--especially in technology to help improve your jobs and the experience for our customers," McMillon wrote. "So, we’re pleased to tell you that we’re raising our starting wage to $11 an hour for Walmart U.S., Sam’s Club, Supply Chain, eCommerce and Home Office hourly associates effective in February."

"I’m also excited to tell you that we’re making an important change to benefits by expanding our paid leave policy to provide full-time hourly associates with 10 weeks of paid maternity leave and six weeks of paid parental leave. This expanded parental leave also applies to salaried associates and to parents who adopt. We will also contribute $5,000 to the cost of adoption," he continued. "I recently heard from two associates on this topic—one through an open door note and one at a town hall. Both pointed out how limited our policy was for adoptive parents so we’re happy to be addressing that concern now."

Or maybe it is because they are not competitive in the market. That’s what everyone was saying when they were posting about $15 minimum wage. The market would take care of minimum wages. Can’t have it both ways.

Who on this board thinks Walmart is a pay competitive employer?? They are hiring people with no teeth and sores all over their faces (meth heads) in Destin.

Also announced today is that Walmart is closing 63 Sam’s locations.

They said they sped up their minimum wage BECAUSE of the tax bill. It looks to me like the market is handling things.

Given these changes, we have an opportunity to accelerate a few pieces of our investment plan

It was already planned. And how can the "market" be handling things when it required a government handout to accelerate it. moron.

Lets see they werent govt mandated to raise min wage so yes the market handled it. Their tax bill will be smaller so they have more income to accelerate their planned raise. Only in liberal land can you complain about people getting a raise a bonus of up to 1000 more maternity/paternal leave, $5000 for adoption services etc.

The tax cuts were government mandated. That's not the market "handling" anything.

This will be nice for Walmart employees in BFE where the number of jobs paying above MW are low. For Walmarts in wealthier urban/suburban areas, I see what their wage levels get them...shitty help, which the shitty customers seem not to mind. It's no industry secret Walmart would like to bolster their image, and perhaps paying a little more to get better employees will help their bottom line.

Will the pain and suffering from the tax bill ever end?

Fiat Chrysler announced Thursday that it will up its investment in the United States and pay some of its employees special bonuses after the recent tax code overhaul.

CEO Sergio Marchionne said in a statement that these announcements reflect the company's ongoing commitment to manufacturing in the U.S. He also cited the recently signed tax bill as an opportunity to share the savings with Fiat Chrysler employees.

The automaker said it will invest more than $1 billion in a Michigan plant and relocate production of its Ram Heavy Duty truck in 2020. That model is currently being produced in Saltillo, Mexico.

Fiat Chrysler said this decision would create about 2,500 jobs in addition to the ones that have been previously announced.

The company said it will also pay 60,000 of its U.S. employees bonuses of $2,000 each. Fiat Chrysler said these bonuses would not include senior leadership.

President Obama hit presumptive GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump for not detailing the ways in which he plans to accomplish certain goals.

Trump often talks about bringing back manufacturing jobs while on the campaign trail and pledges to place tariffs on companies that move outside of the country.

“Well, how exactly are you going to do that? What exactly are you going to do? There’s no answer to it," Obama said.

"He just says, 'Well, I’m going to negotiate a better deal.' Well, what, how exactly are you going to negotiate that? What magic wand do you have? And usually the answer is, he doesn’t have an answer.”

-Obama: June 2016

once again, on a scale of no proof of collusion yet to election night, just how pissed are the resident libs that jobs are coming back to the states as a result of MAGA's tax cuts?

I do. My wife works for Walmart. She makes more working there than should would working for any of their competitors. She has great skin and teeth.

let's recap:

American Airlines

The airline said on January 2 that it would give 130,000 employees a $1,000 bonus because of the new tax law.

"We will be able to invest even more in aircraft and facilities, and we will be able to do so with even greater confidence about the future," he said.

AT&T

The telecom giant said on December 20, 2017 -- the day Congress passed the tax bill -- that it would give 200,000 U.S. employees a $1,000 holiday bonus.

Bank of America

The bank said on December 22, 2017 that those making up to $150,000 per year, or about 145,000 workers, would receive a one-time bonus of $1,000.

CEO Brian Moynihan highlighted tax reform in an internal memo announcing the news
.

"Beginning in 2018, we will see benefits from the tax reform ... in the form of lower corporate tax rates," he said.

Comcast

Comcast (CMCSA) said on December 20, 2017 that it would give $1,000 holiday bonuses to more than 100,000 employees.

The telecom company added that it expects to spend "well in excess of $50 billion over the next five years investing in infrastructure to radically improve and extend our broadband plant and capacity, and our television, film and theme park offerings," according to a press release.

The release said the announcement was "based on the passage of tax reform."

Fiat Chrysler

Fiat Chrysler announced Thursday that it will give 60,000 U.S. workers a one-time $2,000 bonus.

The company also said it's moving production of the Ram heavy-duty truck from Saltillo, Mexico, to Warren, Michigan, in 2020.

"It is only proper that our employees share in the savings generated by tax reform and that we openly acknowledge the resulting improvement in the U.S. business environment by investing in our industrial footprint accordingly," CEO Sergio Marchionne said in a press release.

Fifth Third Bancorp

The financial services company said on December 20, 2017 that it would raise its minimum wage to $15 an hour for all employees. The firm also said it would give a one-time $1,000 bonus to more than 13,500 employees.

CEO Greg Carmichael credited tax reform legislation for the move.

"The tax cut allowed the Bank the opportunity to reevaluate its compensation structure and share some of those benefits with its talented and dedicated workforce," Fifth Third said in a press release.

JetBlue

JetBlue (JBLU) said on January 4 that it would give $1,000 to all 21,000 of its crew members due to tax reform.

Southwest Airlines

Southwest (LUV) said on January 2 that it would "celebrate the recent tax reform legislation" by giving full-time and part-time employees $1,000 cash bonuses.

"We are excited about the savings and additional capital, which we intend to put to work in several forms," CEO Gary Kelly said in a statement.

Southwest also said it would give an additional $5 million to charities, and pledged to buy more planes from Boeing (BA), its aircraft supplier.

Walmart

Walmart announced Thursday that it will give employees a one-time bonus of up to $1,000. The company is also raising wages for workers.

The nation's largest retailer said it would increase its minimum wage to $11 an hour starting in February. Walmart (WMT) last raised its minimum pay for employees to $10 an hour in 2015.

Walmart also said it would create a new benefit to help with adoption expenses and is expanding its paid parental leave policy.

Wells Fargo

The bank said on December 20, 2017 that it would raise the company's minimum wage to $15 an hour, from $13.50.

"We believe tax reform is good for our U.S. economy and are pleased to take these immediate steps to invest in our team members, communities, small businesses, and homeowners," CEO Tim Sloan said in a statement.

Wells Fargo also said it would increase its charitable giving in 2018 by about 40% to $400 million.

Congrats on the new job. Definitely a first step in your plan of moving out of the trailer park.

I'm not seeing any promise of more jobs like your overlords promised.

It's evident the reason cheetos likes low information voters.

Every single bonus you cons are parading, YOU paid for with your tax dollars. These corporate welfare bigwigs are playing you hard.

"The car manufacturer announced its plan on Sunday to spend $1 billion to expand plants in Ohio and Michigan and create 2,000 more jobs in the country.

A news release issued by the company stated the move was part of a plan that had been first conceived in 2015." ** Jobs created:2000 Cost to taxpayer.......$0

Newest announcement of 1 billion and 2500 jobs. Cost to taxpayer? Millions or billions.

Raleigh I don’t think you understand how much money I make off those trailer parks. Cash cows baby. I don’t buy low income trailer parks like what you are used to. In the process of buying another one in the Tallahassee area. In three to five years it will net out well above $1 million a year.

Nice story. Keep dreaming. Be sure and take the time to learn how to develop a strategic plan. After your past attempts at discussion, it’s a little more involved than just projecting a net.

This has been in the works for a while, since about late 2016, and had more to do with threats to scrap NAFTA than anything else. Big pickups are cash cows for the automakers, and they do NOT want tariffs to eat into these profit-producers. Also, FCA was a little hesitant to let the cat out of the bag because of some stuff they are doing with Jeep (there is going to be a Jeep pickup soon).

Can anyone of you libs actually explain the assertion greedtard is presenting?

That being, a tax cut on personal income pays corporation salaries and bonuses....

Looking forward to the Jeep pickup. Friend of mine planning on getting one.

Sure it is: FCA US is one of the "Big Three" American automobile manufacturers. FCA US has its headquarters in Auburn Hills, Michigan and sells vehicles worldwide under its flagship Chrysler brand, as well as the Dodge, Jeep, and Ram Trucks. Other major divisions include Mopar, its automotive parts and accessories division, and SRT, its performance automobile division.
Absolutely it is not. You copied and pasted the second half of a Wikipedia paragraph that clearly states fiat Chrysler is not an American company.

Chrysler that you know went bankrupt years ago. Was bought by a capital group then sold to fiat an Italian company. In 2014 Fiat Chrysler sga bought the remainder of the company from the uaw. Then became FCA.

Stop making up shit up.

Jason could very well be a head coach someday.

So the government reducing tax rates (i.e. taking less money from those who earned it) is now a government “handout.” That’s hilarious.
