Culture Shock

Marshall soccer continued their trend of signing foreigners today by getting a commitment from Haruhi Taneda.

What do you think about Marshall doing this? Can you imagine foreign kids seeing things about the U.S. their entire life: California sun and beaches, New York City towers, celebs, wealth, etc., then landing in Huntington?

Instead of California beaches, they get brown water in the Ohio. Instead of the NYC skyline, they get The Frederick. Instead of Samuel L. Jackson they get Alligator Jackson. Instead of wealth they get Hillbilly Hot Dogs and “luxury apartments” like the one in my icon. Instead of Rodeo Drive they get Hal Greer Blvd. That has to be a brutal wake-up call for these kids.

Should Marshall be bringing a bunch of foreign kids to Little Detroit and putting their life and well-being at risk?

NCAA agrees to allow schools to pay players

The NCAA and its five power conferences have agreed to allow schools to directly pay players for the first time in the 100-plus-year history of college sports.

The NCAA and its leagues are planning to alert plaintiffs' attorneys Thursday that they are prepared to move forward with a multibillion-dollar agreement to settle three pending federal antitrust cases, sources told ESPN. The NCAA will pay more than $2.7 billion in damages over 10 years to past and current athletes, according to sources. Sources said the parties also have agreed to a revenue-sharing plan allowing each school to share up to roughly $20 million per year with its athletes.

rifle do you really believe Mush Brain Biden doesn't have cognitive issues?

You are smarter than that. You don't have to cover for EG or the liberal media. No way anybody can say with a straight face that Mush Brain is not a Mush Brain. Many times he is hidden from the meida. He has low energy. He flubs basic speech all the time. In some cases he appears to be given drugs just to get through the occassion. He appears lost and confused continuously.

Iran's Drone Attack. A Good Question.

If Iran were trying to attack Israel then how did the world, CNN, Fox, BBC, ABC, social media, etc. know about it before the first drones ever hit Israel? Here comes the drones should be there in 2 hours or 1 or here is the count down.

Think about it. Here comes the sneak attack.

Something doesn't add up. Why can't reporters and the media or professionals do their job?

Here comes the sneak attack in 2 hours. Drones halfway there. Get your popcorn and soda.

Think about it.

This isn't the First Time

Five years ago, while in Berlin, I met a striking French girl who had moved there a few years prior. I was staying at the Berlin Ritz Carlton, because ya' know, rich, so it was easy to get her to come over. She blew me, spent the night, blew me again in the morning, and I think (but am not positive) that she took a train with me that day out of the city to visit a concentration camp. Then, of course, we lost touch.

Fast forward to today: I am browsing Hinge (a dating app) and come across an attractive face that looks somewhat familiar. We match. She messages me and can tell I don't remember her (or least identify where/how I know her). She calls me out on it, and then it hits me who she is (by looking at her profile). She apparently moved to LA a couple of years ago.

How many of you have met a girl in Berlin, got blown at the RC, then randomly bumped into her on a dating app five years later on the other side of the world?

Merlin Bird ID

Now that I'm pretty much sexually deactivated, I just sit outside on the porch and feed the birds, squirrels, and chipmunks. I'm raising these catbirds now, and must have four pairs of residents. They nest in the bushes, and eat the berries and nuts I provide, as well as the grape jelly. Had a chipmunk sit with me yesterday for a bit, and shared a few hard shelled nuts. Did you know a common monk can put about eight of those in its jaws?

I highly recommend the merlin bird ID for any of you bird enthusiasts. Just saw a house finch get into a fight with a song sparrow. Looks to be a fine Monday morning here.

greed, do you have birds out Wayne? Would love to hear all about it.

Damn you, Big Box store

I was walking with my niece in her garden when I noticed a beautiful plant she had along the path. Each flower was so perfectly formed. I wanted one.

My niece said she remembered getting it at a local BB store, but she couldn’t remember which one or the name of the plant. I took a picture and did some research.

I discovered the plant was a variety of helleborus, more commonly known as a Lenten rose. I also learned that the plant can be highly toxic if ingested and even dangerous to touch for some people. It can cause skin rash and irritation.

I told my niece she might want to keep her grandchild away from that plant when she visited. My niece was very surprised at the dangers the plant posed and said it was probably the reason she had been to the dermatologist several times with serious skin rashes.

I enjoy working in my garden and I have become fairly knowledgeable over the years about plants. I know which ones have toxic seeds, leaves or flowers. It really surprises me that warning tags aren’t required on plants that can be deadly. We require warnings on a jar of peanut butter but, to my knowledge, not on toxic plants.

Marshall Beat Writer

He is one of our own and fairly young, so I will try to take it easy on him. But Luke Creasy should be put on the first train out of town for writing this article, taught how to be a true journalist and not a fan-boy, then be allowed back.

In 55 games, the Herd scored five or more runs less than half the time (22) and was held to two or fewer runs 16 times, but only once during the last month of the season.

Can somebody get Luke a calculator? He claims that Marshall scored five or more runs 22 times. In reality, it was 23 times. He also claims that during the last month of the season (May), the Herd was held to two or fewer runs once. In reality, it was twice. Seriously, how do you get both of your claims wrong when all you have to do is count the number of games throughout the schedule?

More, the last month that he is using (May) only went until the 18th day of that month since the season stopped, so it was barely half of a month. Over the last 31 days of the season (a month of time), that number jumps from two to six. It's quite dishonest to try arguing what he did by using "the last month of the season" when it was barely half of a month. If the month ended on May 1st and Marshall won the game played on May 1st, would he also argue that Marshall showed great improvement by going undefeated "during the last month of the season"?

Beals said Marshall’s greatest need heading into the offseason is addressing the battery — pitchers and catchers — but as a whole, he’s seeking depth at all positions across the roster.

Hey, Lucas - how about asking Beals how he prioritizes the battery upgrades over hitting upgrades when his team just set an all-time Marshall low for team batting average?

This season, Marshall’s team batting average was .233, compared to a .273 clip for its opponents.

It was 293rd out of 295 teams. Put those numbers into perspective for your readers, Lucas.

In many ways, Beals’ second year at the helm in Huntington was a step forward. The Herd increased its win total by two games

A two win improvement that went from a terrible season to a god-awful season? That's not a step forward, Lucas. If you're going to use this argument, at least note an improvement in the SOS for the Herd to justify your claim.

Be a true journalist. You will get more respect by being honest and presenting things factually. If you piss off some people within Shewey, that is fine. Those who get pissed will be out of there soon enough. You will earn more respect being a legitimate journalist.
